Pim could not read the board at school. The words were soft and gray. He did not tell anyone.
皮姆看不清学校的黑板。字都是模糊的灰色。他没有告诉任何人。
Every day, he took a seat in the front. Other students wanted the back seats. Pim wanted the front.
每天,他都坐在前排。别的学生想坐后排。皮姆想坐前排。
He leaned forward and looked very hard. Still, the numbers looked like small clouds. His head hurt after class.
他身子向前倾,使劲地看。可是,数字还是像一朵朵小云。下课后他的头很痛。
One day, the teacher wrote a word on the board. "Pim, read this word," she said. Pim looked and said nothing.
有一天,老师在黑板上写了一个词。“皮姆,读一下这个词,”她说。皮姆看了看,什么也没说。
After class, she asked him a question. "Can you see the board?" Pim looked at his shoes. "Not very well," he said.
下课后,她问了他一个问题。“你看得见黑板吗?”皮姆低头看着自己的鞋。“看得不太清楚,”他说。
She called his mother. On Saturday, they went to an eye doctor. The doctor put a big machine near Pim's face. "Which is better, one or two?" she asked.
她给他的妈妈打了电话。星期六,他们去看眼科医生。医生把一台大机器放在皮姆的脸旁边。“哪一个更清楚,一还是二?”她问。
At the end, the doctor said, "You need glasses." Pim chose a pair of blue glasses.
最后,医生说:“你需要戴眼镜。”皮姆选了一副蓝色的眼镜。
Three days later, he got his glasses. He put them on in the shop. The sign on the wall was sharp and clear. He read every word.
三天后,他拿到了眼镜。他在店里就戴上了。墙上的招牌清晰分明。他把每个字都读了出来。
He walked home with his mother. At the corner, he stopped. He looked up at a tree.
他和妈妈一起走路回家。到了拐角,他停了下来。他抬头看着一棵树。
He could see every leaf. Each one had thin white lines. Pim stood there for a long time and counted them.
他能看清每一片叶子。每片叶子上都有细细的白线。皮姆在那里站了很久,一片一片地数着。
