The Phone That Died on the Trail

Tavian and Perrin hike up to a popular viewpoint every summer. Today, they use Tavian's phone for directions. About halfway up, Tavian checks his phone. The screen stays black, and nothing happens.

Tavian e Perrin fazem uma trilha até um mirante popular todo verão. Hoje, eles usam o celular de Tavian para as direções. Na metade do caminho, Tavian confere o celular. A tela continua preta, e nada acontece.

"My phone is dead," Tavian says. "I forgot to charge it last night." Perrin stops walking and looks at him.

"Meu celular morreu", diz Tavian. "Esqueci de carregar ontem à noite." Perrin para de andar e olha para ele.

"Don't worry," Perrin says. "I brought the paper map, just in case." She pulls a folded map from her backpack.

"Não se preocupe", diz Perrin. "Eu trouxe o mapa de papel, só por precaução." Ela tira um mapa dobrado da mochila.

"You actually brought that old thing?" Tavian asks, surprised. "I always bring it," Perrin says. "Phones die sometimes."

"Você realmente trouxe essa coisa velha?" pergunta Tavian, surpreso. "Eu sempre trago", diz Perrin. "Celulares às vezes morrem."

They open the map together and find their location. Perrin traces the trail with her finger. "We're close," she says. "The viewpoint is just past this bend."

Eles abrem o mapa juntos e encontram a localização deles. Perrin traça a trilha com o dedo. "Estamos perto", ela diz. "O mirante fica logo depois desta curva."

They fold the map and continue walking. Ten minutes later, they reach the viewpoint. The valley spreads out below them, green and quiet.

Eles dobram o mapa e continuam andando. Dez minutos depois, chegam ao mirante. O vale se estende abaixo deles, verde e silencioso.

Tavian looks at Perrin and smiles. "Thanks for bringing that old map," he says. They sit down together and rest.

Tavian olha para Perrin e sorri. "Obrigado por trazer aquele mapa velho", ele diz. Eles se sentam juntos e descansam.
