The Bike Path That Splits

Deniz and Hana ride their bikes along the river on Saturday morning. The sun is warm and the air feels fresh.

Deniz e Hana andam de bicicleta ao longo do rio na manhã de sábado. O sol está quente e o ar parece fresco.

After twenty minutes, the path splits into two directions. A sign shows two arrows.

Depois de vinte minutos, o caminho se divide em duas direções. Uma placa mostra duas setas.

One arrow points along the flat river path. The other points up into the hills.

Uma seta aponta para o caminho plano junto ao rio. A outra aponta para cima, em direção às colinas.

"The river path is long, but it's flat and easy," Hana says.

"O caminho do rio é longo, mas é plano e fácil", diz Hana.

"The hill path is short," Deniz says, "but it looks steep."

"O caminho da colina é curto", diz Deniz, "mas parece íngreme."

They stop and look at both paths for a minute. Hana checks the time on her phone.

Eles param e observam os dois caminhos por um minuto. Hana confere as horas no celular.

"Let's try the hills," Hana says. "We have time, and I want to see the view."

"Vamos tentar a colina", diz Hana. "Temos tempo, e eu quero ver a vista."

Deniz agrees, and they turn onto the hill path together. The road climbs quickly between the trees.

Deniz concorda, e os dois seguem juntos pelo caminho da colina. A estrada sobe rapidamente entre as árvores.

Their legs get tired, but they keep going. After ten minutes, they reach the top of the hill.

As pernas deles ficam cansadas, mas eles continuam. Depois de dez minutos, chegam ao topo da colina.

Below them, the whole valley spreads out. The river looks like a thin blue line.

Lá embaixo, todo o vale se estende diante deles. O rio parece uma fina linha azul.

"This is worth it," Deniz says.

"Valeu a pena", diz Deniz.

Hana takes a photo of the view. They sit on a rock and share their water bottle.
