Odette and Finn run along the river trail every Saturday morning. Today, they try a new part of the trail.
Odette e Finn correm pela trilha do rio todo sábado de manhã. Hoje, eles experimentam uma nova parte da trilha.
The path forks near an old wooden sign. The sign is old, and the words are hard to read.
O caminho se divide perto de uma placa de madeira antiga. A placa é velha, e as palavras são difíceis de ler.
"I think it says the lake is this way," Finn says. He points left.
"Acho que diz que o lago é por aqui", diz Finn. Ele aponta para a esquerda.
"I think it says right," Odette says. "Let's go left, because you saw it first."
"Eu acho que diz para a direita", diz Odette. "Vamos pela esquerda, porque você viu primeiro."
They run down the left path for ten minutes. The trail gets narrow and rocky.
Eles correm pelo caminho da esquerda por dez minutos. A trilha fica estreita e cheia de pedras.
"This doesn't feel right," Odette says. "Maybe we are on the wrong path."
"Isso não parece certo", diz Odette. "Talvez estejamos no caminho errado."
They stop and look at their phone map. The blue dot shows them far from the lake trail.
Eles param e olham o mapa no celular. O ponto azul mostra que eles estão longe da trilha do lago.
"We went the wrong way," Finn says. "The sign meant right, not left."
"Fomos pelo caminho errado", diz Finn. "A placa queria dizer direita, não esquerda."
They turn around and run back to the fork. This time, they take the right path.
Eles dão meia-volta e correm de volta até a bifurcação. Dessa vez, eles seguem pelo caminho da direita.
Ten minutes later, they see the lake through the trees. Blue water sparkles in the morning sun.
Dez minutos depois, eles veem o lago por entre as árvores. A água azul brilha sob o sol da manhã.
"We found it," Odette says. She laughs. "Next time, I choose the direction."
"Nós encontramos", diz Odette. Ela ri. "Da próxima vez, eu escolho a direção."
"Deal," Finn says. "But I still think the sign was confusing."
"Combinado", diz Finn. "Mas eu ainda acho que a placa era confusa."
