The Old Bicycle

Ama had an old neighbor called Goran. He sat on his porch every afternoon. He looked at the street and said little.

आमा के एक बूढ़े पड़ोसी थे, जिनका नाम गोरान था। वे हर दोपहर अपने बरामदे में बैठते थे। वे सड़क को देखते रहते और बहुत कम बोलते थे।

One day, Ama walked past his garage. The door was open. In the back, she saw a bicycle. It was brown with rust.

एक दिन आमा उनके गैराज के पास से गुज़री। दरवाज़ा खुला था। पीछे उसे एक साइकिल दिखी। वह जंग लगी भूरी साइकिल थी।

"Is that your bicycle?" she asked.

"क्या वह आपकी साइकिल है?" उसने पूछा।

"Yes," said Goran. "It was my bicycle. It does not work now."

"हाँ," गोरान ने कहा। "वह मेरी साइकिल थी। अब वह चलती नहीं।"

Ama looked at the wheels. "I can help," she said. "I can make it work."

आमा ने पहियों को देखा। "मैं मदद कर सकती हूँ," उसने कहा। "मैं इसे चला सकती हूँ।"

The next day, she came with some oil. She put oil on the chain. At first, it made a loud noise. Then it was quiet.

अगले दिन वह थोड़ा तेल लेकर आई। उसने चेन पर तेल लगाया। पहले उसमें से तेज़ आवाज़ आई। फिर वह शांत हो गई।

On the third day, Ama brought a pump. She put air in both tires. They were hard and round again.

तीसरे दिन आमा एक पंप लेकर आई। उसने दोनों टायरों में हवा भरी। वे फिर से सख़्त और गोल हो गए।

On the fourth day, she bought a new bell. It was silver and shiny. She put it on the handle.

चौथे दिन उसने एक नई घंटी ख़रीदी। वह चाँदी जैसी और चमकदार थी। उसने उसे हैंडल पर लगा दिया।

Goran came out of his house. He looked at the bicycle for a long time. Then he sat on the seat. His hands shook a little.

गोरान अपने घर से बाहर आए। वे बहुत देर तक साइकिल को देखते रहे। फिर वे सीट पर बैठ गए। उनके हाथ थोड़े काँप रहे थे।

He rode slowly down the street. Ama walked next to him. At the corner, Goran rang the bell. Then he rang it again.

वे धीरे-धीरे सड़क पर चल पड़े। आमा उनके बग़ल में पैदल चल रही थी। मोड़ पर गोरान ने घंटी बजाई। फिर उन्होंने उसे दोबारा बजाया।
