Selene shops for a birthday gift at the mall. The store is busy on a Saturday afternoon. She picks out a soft blue sweater.
सेलीन मॉल में जन्मदिन का तोहफ़ा खरीदने आई है। शनिवार की दोपहर को दुकान में भीड़ है। वह एक मुलायम नीला स्वेटर चुनती है।
She also grabs a small candle near the register. At the self-checkout, she scans the candle first. She holds up the sweater next.
वह बिलिंग काउंटर के पास रखी एक छोटी मोमबत्ती भी उठा लेती है। सेल्फ़-चेकआउट पर वह पहले मोमबत्ती स्कैन करती है। फिर वह स्वेटर उठाकर दिखाती है।
The tag hangs inside a fold of fabric. She scans it, or thinks she does. The screen shows only one item.
टैग कपड़े की एक तह के अंदर लटका है। वह उसे स्कैन करती है, या उसे ऐसा लगता है कि करती है। स्क्रीन पर सिर्फ़ एक चीज़ दिखती है।
Selene pays for the candle and bags both items. She does not check the screen twice. She walks out to her car.
सेलीन मोमबत्ती के पैसे देती है और दोनों चीज़ें थैले में रख लेती है। वह स्क्रीन को दोबारा नहीं देखती। वह बाहर अपनी कार तक चली जाती है।
She drives home and stops at a red light. She checks her receipt at the light. Only one item is listed on it.
वह कार चलाकर घर जाती है और एक लाल बत्ती पर रुकती है। वह बत्ती पर अपनी रसीद देखती है। उस पर सिर्फ़ एक चीज़ लिखी है।
Selene realizes the mistake right away. She feels a little nervous. She turns her car around at the next light.
सेलीन को ग़लती तुरंत समझ आ जाती है। उसे थोड़ी घबराहट होती है। वह अगली बत्ती पर अपनी कार मोड़ लेती है।
She drives back to the store. She walks up to the service desk. A worker greets her with a smile.
वह कार चलाकर दुकान वापस आती है। वह सर्विस डेस्क तक जाती है। एक कर्मचारी मुस्कुराकर उसका स्वागत करता है।
"I did not pay for this sweater," Selene says. She points to the item in her bag. The worker checks her receipt carefully.
"मैंने इस स्वेटर के पैसे नहीं दिए," सेलीन कहती है। वह थैले में रखी चीज़ की ओर इशारा करती है। कर्मचारी उसकी रसीद ध्यान से जाँचता है।
"You're right," the worker says kindly. "Let's fix that now." Selene pays the missing amount.
"आप सही कह रही हैं," कर्मचारी प्यार से कहता है। "चलिए, इसे अभी ठीक कर देते हैं।" सेलीन बाक़ी रक़म चुका देती है।
She thanks the worker and leaves again. This time, she checks her receipt twice. Everything on it looks correct.
वह कर्मचारी को धन्यवाद देती है और फिर से निकल जाती है। इस बार वह अपनी रसीद दो बार जाँचती है। उस पर सब कुछ सही दिखता है।
