The Old Bicycle

Ama had an old neighbor called Goran. He sat on his porch every afternoon. He looked at the street and said little.

Ama tinha um vizinho idoso chamado Goran. Ele se sentava na varanda toda tarde. Olhava para a rua e falava pouco.

One day, Ama walked past his garage. The door was open. In the back, she saw a bicycle. It was brown with rust.

Um dia, Ama passou pela garagem dele. A porta estava aberta. No fundo, ela viu uma bicicleta. Era marrom de ferrugem.

"Is that your bicycle?" she asked.

"Aquela é a sua bicicleta?", perguntou ela.

"Yes," said Goran. "It was my bicycle. It does not work now."

"É", disse Goran. "Era a minha bicicleta. Agora ela não funciona."

Ama looked at the wheels. "I can help," she said. "I can make it work."

Ama olhou para as rodas. "Eu posso ajudar", disse ela. "Posso fazê-la funcionar."

The next day, she came with some oil. She put oil on the chain. At first, it made a loud noise. Then it was quiet.

No dia seguinte, ela veio com um pouco de óleo. Passou óleo na corrente. No começo, fez um barulho alto. Depois ficou silenciosa.

On the third day, Ama brought a pump. She put air in both tires. They were hard and round again.

No terceiro dia, Ama trouxe uma bomba. Colocou ar nos dois pneus. Eles ficaram duros e redondos de novo.

On the fourth day, she bought a new bell. It was silver and shiny. She put it on the handle.

No quarto dia, ela comprou uma campainha nova. Era prateada e brilhante. Ela a colocou no guidão.

Goran came out of his house. He looked at the bicycle for a long time. Then he sat on the seat. His hands shook a little.

Goran saiu de casa. Olhou para a bicicleta por um longo tempo. Depois se sentou no selim. Suas mãos tremiam um pouco.

He rode slowly down the street. Ama walked next to him. At the corner, Goran rang the bell. Then he rang it again.

Ele pedalou devagar pela rua. Ama andava ao lado dele. Na esquina, Goran tocou a campainha. Depois a tocou de novo.
