Eamon's parents come to his flat for dinner. He wants a quiet and calm evening. He cooks pasta and puts candles on the table. The smart lights in the room are soft and yellow.
Os pais de Eamon vão ao apartamento dele para jantar. Ele quer uma noite calma e tranquila. Ele faz macarrão e coloca velas na mesa. As luzes inteligentes da sala estão suaves e amarelas.
His mother sits down and smiles. "This is lovely," she says. "It is like a small party."
A mãe dele se senta e sorri. "Que lindo", diz ela. "É como uma festinha."
Right away, the lights change. They go red, then blue, then green. They flash fast, again and again. Music starts from the speaker in the corner.
Na mesma hora, as luzes mudam. Ficam vermelhas, depois azuis, depois verdes. Piscam rápido, de novo e de novo. Uma música começa a tocar no alto-falante do canto.
"What is this?" his father asks.
"O que é isso?", pergunta o pai dele.
"It is the lights," Eamon says. "They hear the word party. They think you want a disco."

"A disco?" his mother says. "How nice!"
"Uma balada?", diz a mãe dele. "Que legal!"
Eamon says, "Lights, stop!" The lights do not stop. He says it again, louder. The lights flash faster. He pushes the buttons on the wall, but nothing happens.
Eamon diz: "Luzes, parem!" As luzes não param. Ele repete, mais alto. As luzes piscam mais rápido. Ele aperta os botões da parede, mas nada acontece.
His father stands up and starts to dance. He moves his arms and turns around in the colors. He is not a good dancer, but he is very happy. His mother claps her hands.
O pai dele se levanta e começa a dançar. Ele mexe os braços e gira no meio das cores. Não dança bem, mas está muito feliz. A mãe dele bate palmas.
Eamon takes his phone and opens the lights app. He looks at the list of settings. There is a button called Party Mode. He presses it, and the button turns off.
Eamon pega o celular e abre o aplicativo das luzes. Ele olha a lista de configurações. Há um botão chamado Modo Festa. Ele o aperta, e o botão se desliga.
The lights go back to soft yellow. The music stops.
As luzes voltam ao amarelo suave. A música para.
"Oh," his father says. He is still in the middle of the room. "Can we do that again?"
"Ah", diz o pai dele. Ele ainda está no meio da sala. "Será que a gente pode fazer isso de novo?"
