The Mismatched Lids

Hana opens the kitchen cabinet for a container. Plastic containers and lids fall out everywhere. None of the lids seem to match.

हाना एक डिब्बे के लिए रसोई की अलमारी खोलती है। प्लास्टिक के डिब्बे और ढक्कन हर तरफ़ गिर पड़ते हैं। कोई भी ढक्कन किसी डिब्बे से मेल खाता नहीं लगता।

She tries lid after lid on one container. Each one is the wrong size. Hana sighs and sits on the floor.

वह एक डिब्बे पर एक के बाद एक ढक्कन लगाकर देखती है। हर ढक्कन ग़लत नाप का है। हाना आह भरती है और फ़र्श पर बैठ जाती है।

Containers roll across the kitchen floor. One lid slides all the way to the door. Hana laughs a little at the mess.

डिब्बे रसोई के फ़र्श पर लुढ़कते जाते हैं। एक ढक्कन फिसलता हुआ दरवाज़े तक पहुँच जाता है। हाना इस गड़बड़ पर थोड़ा हँस पड़ती है।

Her mother walks in and sees the mess. "This drawer is always a problem," she says. They decide to fix it together.

उसकी माँ अंदर आती हैं और यह गड़बड़ देखती हैं। "यह दराज़ हमेशा परेशानी देती है," वे कहती हैं। वे दोनों मिलकर इसे ठीक करने का फ़ैसला करती हैं।

They take every container out of the cabinet. They line them all up on the counter. It looks like a small plastic city.

वे अलमारी से सारे डिब्बे बाहर निकाल लेती हैं। वे सबको काउंटर पर क़तार में सजा देती हैं। यह प्लास्टिक का एक छोटा-सा शहर लगता है।

They match each lid to its container. Some containers have no lid at all. Some lids have no matching container either.

वे हर ढक्कन को उसके डिब्बे से मिलाती हैं। कुछ डिब्बों का कोई ढक्कन ही नहीं है। कुछ ढक्कनों का भी कोई डिब्बा नहीं मिलता।

Hana puts the lidless containers in a bag. Her mother finds two other missing lids. They throw away containers with no matches.

हाना बिना ढक्कन वाले डिब्बे एक थैले में रख देती है। उसकी माँ को दो और खोए हुए ढक्कन मिल जाते हैं। वे बिना जोड़ी वाले डिब्बे फेंक देती हैं।

They stack the matching sets neatly together. The cabinet looks organized for the first time. Hana closes the door with a smile.

वे मेल खाते सेट सलीक़े से एक साथ जमा देती हैं। अलमारी पहली बार व्यवस्थित दिखती है। हाना मुस्कुराकर दरवाज़ा बंद कर देती है।
