Oren has new white shoes. He wears them to school for the first time. They are clean and bright. He looks at them all morning.
In art class, the teacher gives out paint. Oren sits at a long table. He wants to paint the sea. He takes the blue paint.
His elbow hits the cup. The cup falls. Blue paint goes all over his shoes. "No!" he says. The class goes quiet.
Oren looks down. His new shoes are blue and wet. He wants to cry. He wants to go home.
The teacher gives him paper towels. Oren rubs and rubs. The paint does not come off.
He sits and looks at them for a long time. Then he has an idea. He takes a small brush and the yellow paint.
He paints a star on the blue. Then he paints another star. Soon he paints small stars on both shoes.
A girl walks by his table. "Wow, I like your shoes," she says. Two boys come to look.
"Can you paint mine?" one boy asks.
Oren smiles and picks up the brush. "Sure," he says. "Sit down."
