The Costume That Came in the Wrong Box

Ravi orders an animal costume online for Spirit Week at school. He picks a wolf costume, gray with sharp teeth.

Ravi memesan kostum hewan lewat internet untuk Spirit Week di sekolah. Ia memilih kostum serigala, berwarna abu-abu dengan gigi tajam.

The box arrives the night before Spirit Week. Ravi opens it fast and pulls out the costume.

Kotak itu tiba pada malam sebelum Spirit Week. Ravi cepat-cepat membukanya dan menarik keluar kostum itu.

It isn't a wolf. It's a giant hot dog costume, bright yellow and round. A red mustard line runs across the top.

Itu bukan serigala. Itu kostum hot dog raksasa, kuning cerah dan bulat. Sebaris saus mustard merah membentang di bagian atasnya.

"This isn't what I ordered," Ravi says to his sister Delphine. He checks the box label twice.

"Bukan ini yang kupesan," kata Ravi kepada kakaknya, Delphine. Ia memeriksa label kotak itu dua kali.

"There's no time to send it back," Delphine says. "The store won't ship a new one before tomorrow."

"Sudah tidak sempat dikirim balik," kata Delphine. "Tokonya tidak akan mengirim yang baru sebelum besok."

Ravi sits on his bed and stares at the costume. "I can't wear a hot dog to school," he says.

Ravi duduk di tempat tidurnya dan menatap kostum itu. "Aku tidak bisa memakai hot dog ke sekolah," katanya.

Delphine picks up the costume and holds it against him. "Actually, this is funny," she says. "Everyone will remember it."

Delphine mengambil kostum itu dan menempelkannya ke badan Ravi. "Sebenarnya ini lucu," katanya. "Semua orang akan mengingatnya."

Ravi thinks about it for a minute. "Fine," he says. "I'll wear the hot dog."

Ravi berpikir semenit. "Baiklah," katanya. "Aku akan pakai hot dog."

The next morning, Ravi walks into school inside the big yellow costume. Students stop and stare, then start to laugh.

Keesokan paginya, Ravi berjalan masuk ke sekolah dalam kostum kuning besar itu. Murid-murid berhenti dan menatap, lalu mulai tertawa.

"Nice costume!" someone shouts. A group of students ask to take pictures with him.

"Kostum keren!" seru seseorang. Sekelompok murid minta berfoto dengannya.

By lunchtime, everyone at school knows about the hot dog costume. Ravi laughs about his wolf costume that never arrived.

Menjelang makan siang, seluruh sekolah sudah tahu soal kostum hot dog itu. Ravi menertawakan kostum serigalanya yang tak pernah datang.
