Ravi orders an animal costume online for Spirit Week at school. He picks a wolf costume, gray with sharp teeth.
रवि स्कूल के स्पिरिट वीक के लिए ऑनलाइन एक जानवर की पोशाक मँगवाता है। वह भेड़िये की पोशाक चुनता है, स्लेटी रंग की, तीखे दाँतों वाली।
The box arrives the night before Spirit Week. Ravi opens it fast and pulls out the costume.
स्पिरिट वीक से एक रात पहले डिब्बा आ जाता है। रवि जल्दी से उसे खोलता है और पोशाक बाहर निकालता है।
It isn't a wolf. It's a giant hot dog costume, bright yellow and round. A red mustard line runs across the top.
यह भेड़िया नहीं है। यह एक विशाल हॉट डॉग की पोशाक है, चटक पीली और गोल। ऊपर से एक लाल सरसों की लकीर जाती है।
"This isn't what I ordered," Ravi says to his sister Delphine. He checks the box label twice.
"मैंने यह तो नहीं मँगवाया था," रवि अपनी बहन डेल्फ़ीन से कहता है। वह डिब्बे का लेबल दो बार जाँचता है।
"There's no time to send it back," Delphine says. "The store won't ship a new one before tomorrow."
"इसे वापस भेजने का वक़्त नहीं है," डेल्फ़ीन कहती है। "दुकान कल तक नई पोशाक नहीं भेजेगी।"
Ravi sits on his bed and stares at the costume. "I can't wear a hot dog to school," he says.
रवि अपने बिस्तर पर बैठकर पोशाक को घूरता रहता है। "मैं स्कूल में हॉट डॉग बनकर नहीं जा सकता," वह कहता है।
Delphine picks up the costume and holds it against him. "Actually, this is funny," she says. "Everyone will remember it."
डेल्फ़ीन पोशाक उठाकर उसके सामने लगाकर देखती है। "सच कहूँ तो यह मज़ेदार है," वह कहती है। "सबको यह याद रहेगी।"
Ravi thinks about it for a minute. "Fine," he says. "I'll wear the hot dog."
रवि एक मिनट तक सोचता है। "ठीक है," वह कहता है। "मैं हॉट डॉग ही पहनूँगा।"
The next morning, Ravi walks into school inside the big yellow costume. Students stop and stare, then start to laugh.
अगली सुबह रवि उस बड़ी पीली पोशाक में स्कूल पहुँचता है। स्टूडेंट्स रुककर घूरते हैं, फिर हँसने लगते हैं।
"Nice costume!" someone shouts. A group of students ask to take pictures with him.
"क्या बढ़िया पोशाक है!" कोई चिल्लाता है। स्टूडेंट्स का एक झुंड उसके साथ फ़ोटो खिंचवाने को कहता है।
By lunchtime, everyone at school knows about the hot dog costume. Ravi laughs about his wolf costume that never arrived.
लंच तक स्कूल में हर कोई हॉट डॉग की पोशाक के बारे में जान चुका है। रवि अपनी भेड़िये की उस पोशाक पर हँसता है जो कभी आई ही नहीं।
