Selene shops for a birthday gift at the mall. The store is busy on a Saturday afternoon. She picks out a soft blue sweater.
Selene faz compras para um presente de aniversário no shopping. A loja está cheia num sábado à tarde. Ela escolhe um suéter azul macio.
She also grabs a small candle near the register. At the self-checkout, she scans the candle first. She holds up the sweater next.
Ela também pega uma velinha perto do caixa. No caixa de autoatendimento, ela escaneia a vela primeiro. Depois ela segura o suéter.
The tag hangs inside a fold of fabric. She scans it, or thinks she does. The screen shows only one item.
A etiqueta fica escondida numa dobra do tecido. Ela escaneia, ou pensa que escaneou. A tela mostra apenas um item.
Selene pays for the candle and bags both items. She does not check the screen twice. She walks out to her car.
Selene paga pela vela e coloca os dois itens na sacola. Ela não confere a tela de novo. Ela sai para o carro.
She drives home and stops at a red light. She checks her receipt at the light. Only one item is listed on it.
Ela dirige até em casa e para num sinal vermelho. Ela confere o recibo no sinal. Só um item está listado nele.
Selene realizes the mistake right away. She feels a little nervous. She turns her car around at the next light.
Selene percebe o erro na hora. Ela fica um pouco nervosa. Ela dá meia-volta com o carro no próximo cruzamento.
She drives back to the store. She walks up to the service desk. A worker greets her with a smile.
Ela volta para a loja. Ela vai até o balcão de atendimento. Uma atendente a recebe com um sorriso.
"I did not pay for this sweater," Selene says. She points to the item in her bag. The worker checks her receipt carefully.
"Eu não paguei por esse suéter", diz Selene. Ela aponta para o item na sacola. A atendente confere o recibo com cuidado.
"You're right," the worker says kindly. "Let's fix that now." Selene pays the missing amount.
"Você tem razão", a atendente diz gentilmente. "Vamos resolver isso agora." Selene paga o valor que faltava.
She thanks the worker and leaves again. This time, she checks her receipt twice. Everything on it looks correct.
Ela agradece à atendente e sai de novo. Dessa vez, ela confere o recibo duas vezes. Está tudo certo.
