Every Sunday, Lars cooked dinner for his family. It was always the same three dishes. His daughter, Astrid, always set the table.
हर रविवार लार्स अपने परिवार के लिए रात का खाना बनाता था। वही तीन पकवान हर बार बनते थे। उसकी बेटी एस्ट्रिड हमेशा मेज़ लगाती थी।
This Sunday started just like any other. Lars made his usual chicken and potatoes. Astrid set out four plates as always.
यह रविवार भी बाक़ी रविवारों जैसा ही शुरू हुआ। लार्स ने अपना रोज़ वाला चिकन और आलू बनाया। एस्ट्रिड ने हमेशा की तरह चार प्लेटें लगा दीं।
The kitchen smelled warm and familiar. Astrid folded the napkins neatly. Everything felt calm and ordinary.
रसोई में गरम, जानी-पहचानी ख़ुशबू फैली थी। एस्ट्रिड ने नैपकिन सलीक़े से तह किए। सब कुछ शांत और आम-सा लग रहा था।
Then the doorbell rang unexpectedly. Astrid opened the door with surprise. Her old friend from college stood there.
तभी अचानक दरवाज़े की घंटी बजी। एस्ट्रिड ने हैरानी से दरवाज़ा खोला। वहाँ कॉलेज की उसकी पुरानी सहेली खड़ी थी।
"I was in town for one night," she said. Astrid hugged her friend and invited her in. She quickly grabbed one more plate.
"मैं बस एक रात के लिए शहर में थी," उसने कहा। एस्ट्रिड ने अपनी सहेली को गले लगाया और अंदर बुला लिया। उसने जल्दी से एक और प्लेट उठा ली।
Lars added more potatoes to the pot. He made the dinner stretch for five people. He set an extra chair at the table.
लार्स ने पतीले में और आलू डाल दिए। उसने खाना पाँच लोगों के लिए खींचकर पूरा कर लिया। उसने मेज़ पर एक अतिरिक्त कुर्सी लगा दी।
Everyone sat down together happily. Astrid's friend told stories from college. Lars laughed a lot during dinner.
सब ख़ुशी-ख़ुशी साथ बैठे। एस्ट्रिड की सहेली ने कॉलेज के क़िस्से सुनाए। खाने के दौरान लार्स बहुत हँसा।
The quiet Sunday became a lively party. Plates emptied fast, and everyone talked at once. Even the family cat came to look.
शांत रविवार एक रौनक़ भरी पार्टी बन गया। प्लेटें जल्दी ख़ाली हो गईं और सब एक साथ बोल रहे थे। घर की बिल्ली भी देखने चली आई।
"Come back anytime," Lars said at the end. Astrid's friend promised to visit again. They all said goodbye at the door.
"कभी भी फिर आना," लार्स ने आख़िर में कहा। एस्ट्रिड की सहेली ने दोबारा आने का वादा किया। सबने दरवाज़े पर अलविदा कहा।
