Damien worked at the food bank every Saturday. He gave bags of food to people who needed them.
डेमियन हर शनिवार को फ़ूड बैंक में काम करता था। वह ज़रूरतमंद लोगों को खाने के थैले देता था।
One Saturday at ten, an old man came in. He wore a clean, old coat, and his back was very straight.
एक शनिवार को दस बजे एक बुज़ुर्ग आदमी अंदर आया। उसने एक साफ़ लेकिन पुराना कोट पहन रखा था और उसकी पीठ बिलकुल सीधी थी।
"Good morning," Damien said. "Can I help you?"
"नमस्ते," डेमियन ने कहा। "मैं आपकी क्या मदद कर सकता हूँ?"
"I am not here for food," the man said. "I am here to help. Do you need someone to work?"

Damien saw the thin coat and the tired hands. He understood. "You came at the right time," he said. "We have too many boxes of cans and not enough hands."

The old man smiled a little. "Show me," he said.

He sorted cans for three hours. He put the beans, soup, and tomatoes in neat lines. Then he looked at the big shelf by the door. "This one is crooked," he said. "Do you have a screwdriver?"
उसने तीन घंटे तक डिब्बे छाँटे। उसने सेम, सूप और टमाटर के डिब्बे सलीक़े से कतारों में लगा दिए। फिर उसने दरवाज़े के पास वाली बड़ी अलमारी को देखा। "यह टेढ़ी है," उसने कहा। "क्या आपके पास पेचकस है?"
Damien found one. The old man fixed the shelf in ten minutes.
डेमियन को एक मिल गया। बुज़ुर्ग आदमी ने दस मिनट में अलमारी ठीक कर दी।
"I worked with wood for forty years," he said.
"मैंने चालीस साल लकड़ी का काम किया है," उसने कहा।
"You are better than all of us," Damien said.

At one o'clock, the old man put on his coat. Damien filled a bag with rice, beans, soup, bread, and apples.
एक बजे बुज़ुर्ग आदमी ने अपना कोट पहना। डेमियन ने एक थैले में चावल, सेम, सूप, ब्रेड और सेब भर दिए।
"Every helper takes a bag home," he said. "It is the rule here."
"हर मददगार एक थैला घर ले जाता है," उसने कहा। "यहाँ का यही नियम है।"
The old man looked at the bag. Then he looked at Damien. "Then I will take it," he said. He held it with both hands. "Thank you. I will come back next Saturday."
बुज़ुर्ग आदमी ने थैले को देखा। फिर उसने डेमियन को देखा। "तो फिर मैं ले लेता हूँ," उसने कहा। उसने उसे दोनों हाथों से थाम लिया। "शुक्रिया। मैं अगले शनिवार फिर आऊँगा।"
