Maria buys a new toaster at a shop. The shop is on Elm Street. She takes it home and opens the box. She puts a piece of bread inside. She presses the button down. Nothing happens. She waits and tries again. The toaster still does not work.
मारिया एक दुकान से नया टोस्टर ख़रीदती है। दुकान एल्म स्ट्रीट पर है। वह उसे घर ले जाती है और डिब्बा खोलती है। वह उसमें ब्रेड का एक टुकड़ा डालती है। वह बटन नीचे दबाती है। कुछ नहीं होता। वह इंतज़ार करती है और फिर कोशिश करती है। टोस्टर अब भी काम नहीं करता।
Maria checks her bag. She still has the receipt. She puts the toaster back in its box. She carries it back to the shop.
मारिया अपना बैग देखती है। रसीद अब भी उसके पास है। वह टोस्टर को वापस उसके डिब्बे में रख देती है। वह उसे लेकर दुकान लौट जाती है।
"Hello," says the man at the counter. "How can I help you?"
"नमस्ते," काउंटर पर खड़ा आदमी कहता है। "मैं आपकी क्या मदद कर सकता हूँ?"
"Hi," says Maria. "This toaster does not work. I bought it yesterday."
"नमस्ते," मारिया कहती है। "यह टोस्टर काम नहीं करता। मैंने इसे कल ही ख़रीदा था।"
"I'm sorry about that," he says. "Do you have your receipt?"
"मुझे इसके लिए खेद है," वह कहता है। "क्या आपके पास रसीद है?"
"Yes, I have it right here," Maria says.
"जी हाँ, यह रही," मारिया कहती है।
The man looks at the receipt and nods. "Would you like a new toaster, or your money back?"
आदमी रसीद देखता है और सिर हिलाता है। "आप नया टोस्टर लेना चाहेंगी या पैसे वापस?"
Maria thinks for a moment. "A new toaster, please."
मारिया एक पल सोचती है। "नया टोस्टर दे दीजिए, कृपया।"
The man takes a new box from the shelf. "Here you are. Let's check it together."
आदमी शेल्फ़ से एक नया डिब्बा उतारता है। "यह लीजिए। चलिए, इसे साथ मिलकर जाँच लेते हैं।"
He plugs it in at the counter. He puts in a piece of bread. He presses the button. A minute later, the bread pops up, warm and brown.
वह उसे काउंटर पर ही प्लग में लगाता है। वह ब्रेड का एक टुकड़ा डालता है। वह बटन दबाता है। एक मिनट बाद ब्रेड गरम और सुनहरी भूरी होकर ऊपर उछलती है।
"It works," Maria says.
"यह चल रहा है," मारिया कहती है।
"Great," says the man. "Have a good day."
"बढ़िया," आदमी कहता है। "आपका दिन शुभ हो।"
Maria takes the new toaster home. She opens the box in the kitchen. She puts in two pieces of bread. She presses the button. She waits by the counter and watches the clock.
मारिया नया टोस्टर घर ले जाती है। वह रसोई में डिब्बा खोलती है। वह उसमें ब्रेड के दो टुकड़े डालती है। वह बटन दबाती है। वह काउंटर के पास खड़ी इंतज़ार करती है और घड़ी देखती रहती है।
