The Sunday Walk with Grandma

Every Sunday, Suri walked with her grandmother around the lake. It was their favorite routine together. They talked quietly and fed the ducks.

हर रविवार सूरी अपनी दादी के साथ झील के चारों ओर सैर करने जाती थी। यह उन दोनों की सबसे पसंदीदा आदत थी। वे धीमे-धीमे बातें करतीं और बत्तखों को दाना खिलातीं।

This Sunday started just like any other. They packed a small bag of bread. They left the house right after breakfast.

इस रविवार की शुरुआत भी बाक़ी दिनों जैसी ही हुई। उन्होंने रोटी का एक छोटा थैला रखा। नाश्ते के तुरंत बाद वे घर से निकल पड़ीं।

Halfway around the lake, a man waved from a bench. Suri's grandmother stopped walking and stared at him. "Ingmar? Is that really you?" she said.

झील का आधा चक्कर पूरा होने पर एक बेंच से किसी आदमी ने हाथ हिलाया। सूरी की दादी चलते-चलते रुक गईं और उसे घूरने लगीं। "इंगमार? क्या सच में तुम हो?" उन्होंने कहा।

The man stood up slowly and smiled wide. "Rosalind! After all these years," he said. He held out both arms for a hug.

वह आदमी धीरे से उठा और खुलकर मुस्कुराया। "रोज़लिंड! इतने सालों बाद," उसने कहा। उसने गले मिलने के लिए दोनों बाँहें फैला दीं।

Suri watched in surprise. Her grandmother hugged the stranger tightly. "Ingmar was your grandfather's best friend," she explained. "We did not see each other for many years."

सूरी हैरानी से देखती रही। उसकी दादी ने उस अजनबी को कसकर गले लगाया। "इंगमार तुम्हारे दादाजी का सबसे अच्छा दोस्त था," उन्होंने समझाया। "हम कई सालों तक एक-दूसरे से नहीं मिले थे।"

Ingmar joined them for the rest of the walk. He told Suri stories about her grandfather. Some stories made her grandmother laugh a lot.

इंगमार सैर के बाक़ी हिस्से में उनके साथ चला। उसने सूरी को उसके दादाजी के क़िस्से सुनाए। कुछ क़िस्सों पर दादी बहुत हँसीं।

They fed the ducks together at the halfway point. Ingmar pointed out his favorite duck from years ago. This man was a stranger to her that morning.

उन्होंने आधे रास्ते पर साथ मिलकर बत्तखों को दाना खिलाया। इंगमार ने सालों पहले की अपनी पसंदीदा बत्तख की ओर इशारा किया। यह आदमी उस सुबह तक सूरी के लिए अजनबी था।

By the end of the walk, Suri heard many stories. She wanted to hear more.

सैर ख़त्म होते-होते सूरी ने ढेर सारे क़िस्से सुन लिए थे। वह और सुनना चाहती थी।

Ingmar promised to visit again next Sunday. Suri's grandmother squeezed his hand before he left. "Same bench, same time," she said.

इंगमार ने अगले रविवार फिर आने का वादा किया। जाने से पहले सूरी की दादी ने उसका हाथ दबाया। "वही बेंच, वही समय," उन्होंने कहा।

The next Sunday, Ingmar waited at the same bench. He brought old photos of her grandfather. Suri sat between the two old friends.

अगले रविवार इंगमार उसी बेंच पर इंतज़ार कर रहा था। वह सूरी के दादाजी की पुरानी तस्वीरें लाया था। सूरी उन दोनों पुराने दोस्तों के बीच बैठी थी।
