The Missing Garden Gnome

Ines had a small garden in front of her house. She kept a stone gnome next to the flowers. She loved the little gnome very much.

Inés tenía un pequeño jardín frente a su casa. Guardaba un gnomo de piedra junto a las flores. Quería muchísimo al pequeño gnomo.

One morning, Ines watered her flowers. She stopped and looked at the corner of the garden. The gnome was not there.

Una mañana, Inés regó sus flores. Se detuvo y miró la esquina del jardín. El gnomo no estaba ahí.

Ines looked around the garden. She checked behind the flowers. She checked near the fence. The gnome was nowhere.

Inés miró por todo el jardín. Revisó detrás de las flores. Revisó cerca de la cerca. El gnomo no estaba por ningún lado.

She knocked on her neighbor's door. "Hi, Felix. Did you see my garden gnome?" she asked.

Tocó la puerta de su vecino. «Hola, Félix. ¿Viste mi gnomo de jardín?», preguntó.

"No, I didn't," Felix said. "Maybe the wind moved it. It was very windy last night."

«No, no lo vi», dijo Félix. «Tal vez el viento lo movió. Anoche hizo mucho viento».

Ines thanked him and walked back to her garden. She looked at the bushes near the fence. Something small and gray was inside the bushes.

Inés le dio las gracias y regresó a su jardín. Miró los arbustos cerca de la cerca. Algo pequeño y gris estaba dentro de los arbustos.

She pushed the leaves apart. There was her gnome! It fell into the bushes during the storm.

Separó las hojas. ¡Ahí estaba su gnomo! Había caído en los arbustos durante la tormenta.

Ines picked up the gnome and cleaned it. She carried it back to its place by the flowers.

Inés recogió el gnomo y lo limpió. Lo llevó de vuelta a su lugar junto a las flores.

"There you go," she said. "Back where you belong."

«Listo», dijo. «De vuelta donde perteneces».

She watered the flowers one more time and went inside for breakfast.

Regó las flores una vez más y entró a desayunar.
