Rain During the Game

Callum has soccer practice every Tuesday after school. He always arrives early to warm up. Today, the sky looks clear and bright. His teammates slowly arrive at the field.

Callum tiene entrenamiento de fútbol todos los martes después de la escuela. Siempre llega temprano para calentar. Hoy, el cielo se ve despejado y brillante. Sus compañeros de equipo llegan poco a poco al campo.

The coach blows his whistle to start practice. Players run laps around the field first. Then they practice passing the ball in pairs. Callum passes with his friend Fiona.

El entrenador toca el silbato para empezar el entrenamiento. Los jugadores corren vueltas alrededor del campo primero. Luego practican pases en parejas. Callum practica pases con su amiga Fiona.

"Nice pass," Fiona says, kicking the ball back. "You get faster every week."

"Thanks. I practice at home too," Callum says, smiling.

«Gracias. Practico en casa también», dice Callum, sonriendo.

Halfway through practice, the sky slowly turns gray. Nobody notices the clouds at first. The players keep running and passing the ball. The coach checks his watch and frowns.

A la mitad del entrenamiento, el cielo poco a poco se vuelve gris. Al principio nadie nota las nubes. Los jugadores siguen corriendo y pasando la pelota. El entrenador mira su reloj y frunce el ceño.

Suddenly, thunder crashes loudly above the field. Everyone stops and looks up at once. Thick, dark clouds now cover the sky. Rain starts falling hard and fast.

De repente, un trueno retumba fuerte sobre el campo. Todos se detienen y miran hacia arriba al mismo tiempo. Nubes gruesas y oscuras ahora cubren el cielo. La lluvia empieza a caer fuerte y rápido.

"Everyone, grab your bags!" the coach shouts. "Run to the gym, now!"

«¡Todos, tomen sus bolsos!», grita el entrenador. «¡Corran al gimnasio, ahora!».

Players scatter and run toward the school building. Callum grabs his bag and water bottle. Fiona slips a little on the wet grass.

Los jugadores se dispersan y corren hacia el edificio de la escuela. Callum toma su bolso y su botella de agua. Fiona resbala un poco en el pasto mojado.

"Are you okay?" Callum asks, helping her stand.

«¿Estás bien?», pregunta Callum, ayudándola a levantarse.

"I'm fine, just wet," Fiona says, laughing.

«Estoy bien, solo mojada», dice Fiona, riendo.

They run together through the heavy rain. They reach the gym at last. Both are completely wet.

Corren juntos bajo la lluvia intensa. Por fin llegan al gimnasio. Los dos están completamente mojados.

Inside, the team gathers near the doors. Water drips from their hair and jackets. The coach counts the players quickly.

Adentro, el equipo se reúne cerca de las puertas. El agua gotea de su cabello y sus chaquetas. El entrenador cuenta a los jugadores rápidamente.

"Everyone is here," he says, relieved. "Great job today, everyone."

«Están todos aquí», dice, aliviado. «Buen trabajo hoy, todos».

Fiona squeezes water from her wet hair and grins. "That was such a fast run!"

Fiona se escurre el agua del cabello mojado y sonríe. «¡Esa fue una carrera muy rápida!».

Callum laughs and pulls off his soaked jacket. "Same time next week?" he asks.

"Same time next week," Fiona agrees, still smiling.
