A man and his wife had the good fortune to own a Goose that laid a golden egg every single day.
Um homem e sua esposa tiveram a sorte de possuir uma Gansa que botava um ovo de ouro todos os dias.
Lucky though they were, they soon began to think they were not getting rich fast enough.
Por mais sortudos que fossem, logo começaram a achar que não estavam enriquecendo rápido o suficiente.
They imagined that if the Goose could lay golden eggs, she must be made of gold inside. So they thought that if they could get all that gold at once, they would become very rich indeed.
Imaginaram que, se a Gansa podia botar ovos de ouro, ela devia ser feita de ouro por dentro. Então pensaram que, se conseguissem todo aquele ouro de uma vez, ficariam muito ricos.
So the man and his wife decided to kill the Goose. But when they cut her open, they found that she was exactly like any other goose. There was no gold inside her at all.
Então o homem e sua esposa decidiram matar a Gansa. Mas, quando a abriram, descobriram que ela era exatamente igual a qualquer outra gansa. Não havia ouro nenhum dentro dela.
Now they had neither their daily golden egg nor their precious Goose.
Agora eles não tinham nem o ovo de ouro diário, nem sua preciosa Gansa.
Those who have plenty want more, and so lose all that they have.
