The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs

A man and his wife had the good fortune to own a Goose that laid a golden egg every single day.

一对夫妻幸运地拥有一只鹅，这只鹅每天都会下一个金蛋。

Lucky though they were, they soon began to think they were not getting rich fast enough.

尽管他们如此幸运，但很快就觉得自己富起来的速度还不够快。

They imagined that if the Goose could lay golden eggs, she must be made of gold inside. So they thought that if they could get all that gold at once, they would become very rich indeed.

他们猜想，既然鹅能下金蛋，它体内一定是用黄金做的。于是他们想，要是能一次性把那些金子全部弄到手，那他们就会变得非常富有了。

So the man and his wife decided to kill the Goose. But when they cut her open, they found that she was exactly like any other goose. There was no gold inside her at all.

于是这对夫妻决定杀掉那只鹅。可当他们把它剖开时，却发现它和普通的鹅毫无二致，体内根本没有一点黄金。

Now they had neither their daily golden egg nor their precious Goose.

如今他们既没了每天的金蛋，也没了那只珍贵的鹅。

Those who have plenty want more, and so lose all that they have.

拥有很多的人还想要更多，结果反而失去了自己拥有的一切。
