Rafael worked at the shop for two years. He always closes carefully every night. Tonight felt different from the start.
Rafael trabalhava na loja havia dois anos. Ele sempre fechava com cuidado todas as noites. Esta noite parecia diferente desde o início.
Rafael counted the cash drawer at closing time. The number was five dollars short. He counted it a second time.
Rafael contou o caixa na hora de fechar. Faltavam cinco dólares. Ele contou uma segunda vez.
The number stayed the same. Rafael felt worried. He did not want to blame anyone.
O número continuou o mesmo. Rafael ficou preocupado. Ele não queria culpar ninguém.
He opened the day's receipts on the screen. He checked each sale one by one. Most transactions matched perfectly.
Ele abriu os recibos do dia na tela. Conferiu cada venda uma por uma. A maioria das transações batia perfeitamente.
Then he found something strange. One return appeared twice on the list. The same shirt, the same time, the same price.
Então ele encontrou algo estranho. Uma devolução aparecia duas vezes na lista. A mesma camisa, o mesmo horário, o mesmo preço.
Rafael checked the return slips in the drawer. Only one paper return slip sat there. Somebody entered it twice by mistake.
Rafael conferiu os comprovantes de devolução na gaveta. Havia apenas um comprovante de papel ali. Alguém tinha lançado a devolução duas vezes por engano.
He called his manager over to the counter. "I found the problem," Rafael said. "A return got entered two times."
Ele chamou a gerente até o balcão. "Encontrei o problema", disse Rafael. "Uma devolução foi lançada duas vezes."
His manager checked the screen carefully. "You're right," she said. "That explains the missing five dollars."
A gerente conferiu a tela com cuidado. "Você tem razão", disse ela. "Isso explica os cinco dólares que faltavam."
She fixed the mistake and printed a new report. "Great job finding this," she said. Rafael felt relieved and locked the register.
Ela corrigiu o erro e imprimiu um novo relatório. "Ótimo trabalho encontrando isso", disse ela. Rafael sentiu-se aliviado e trancou o caixa.
He walked out to his car and smiled.
Ele caminhou até o carro e sorriu.
