Rafael worked at the shop for two years. He always closes carefully every night. Tonight felt different from the start.
Rafael trabajaba en la tienda desde hacía dos años. Siempre cerraba con cuidado todas las noches. Esta noche se sintió diferente desde el principio.
Rafael counted the cash drawer at closing time. The number was five dollars short. He counted it a second time.
Rafael contó la caja registradora a la hora de cerrar. Faltaban cinco dólares. La contó una segunda vez.
The number stayed the same. Rafael felt worried. He did not want to blame anyone.
El número seguía igual. Rafael se sintió preocupado. No quería culpar a nadie.
He opened the day's receipts on the screen. He checked each sale one by one. Most transactions matched perfectly.
Abrió los recibos del día en la pantalla. Revisó cada venta una por una. La mayoría de las transacciones coincidían perfectamente.
Then he found something strange. One return appeared twice on the list. The same shirt, the same time, the same price.

Rafael checked the return slips in the drawer. Only one paper return slip sat there. Somebody entered it twice by mistake.

He called his manager over to the counter. "I found the problem," Rafael said. "A return got entered two times."
Llamó a su gerente al mostrador. «Encontré el problema», dijo Rafael. «Una devolución se registró dos veces».
His manager checked the screen carefully. "You're right," she said. "That explains the missing five dollars."
Su gerente revisó la pantalla con cuidado. «Tiene razón», dijo ella. «Eso explica los cinco dólares que faltaban».
She fixed the mistake and printed a new report. "Great job finding this," she said. Rafael felt relieved and locked the register.
Ella corrigió el error e imprimió un nuevo reporte. «Buen trabajo al encontrar esto», dijo ella. Rafael se sintió aliviado y cerró la caja registradora.
He walked out to his car and smiled.
Salió hacia su auto y sonrió.
