The Missing Delivery

Jocelyn orders a new lamp for her living room. The app says it arrives on Tuesday. She waits at home all afternoon.

Jocelyn memesan lampu baru untuk ruang tamunya. Menurut aplikasi, lampu itu tiba hari Selasa. Ia menunggu di rumah sepanjang sore.

At five o'clock, the app shows one word: "Delivered." Jocelyn checks her front porch right away. There is no box anywhere.

Pukul lima, aplikasi menampilkan satu kata: "Terkirim." Jocelyn langsung memeriksa teras depan. Tidak ada kotak di mana pun.

She looks under the porch bench. She checks behind the plants. She does not see the box.

Ia melihat ke bawah bangku teras. Ia memeriksa di balik tanaman. Ia tidak menemukan kotak itu.

Jocelyn calls the delivery company right away. A worker checks the tracking number. "It shows a photo of your porch," he says.

Jocelyn segera menelepon perusahaan pengiriman. Seorang petugas memeriksa nomor pelacakan. "Di sini ada foto teras rumah Anda," katanya.

He sends the photo to her phone. Jocelyn looks at it closely. It shows a different porch with a red door.

Ia mengirim foto itu ke ponsel Jocelyn. Jocelyn memandanginya dengan saksama. Foto itu menunjukkan teras lain dengan pintu merah.

Her own door is blue, not red. She thinks about the houses on her street. Her neighbor Emil has a red door.

Pintu rumahnya sendiri biru, bukan merah. Ia memikirkan rumah-rumah di jalannya. Tetangganya, Emil, punya pintu merah.

Jocelyn walks next door quickly. She knocks on Emil's door twice. "Did you get a package today?" she asks.

Jocelyn bergegas ke sebelah. Ia mengetuk pintu Emil dua kali. "Apakah Anda menerima paket hari ini?" tanyanya.

Emil looks confused for a second. He checks his own porch outside. A box sits by his mat.

Emil tampak bingung sejenak. Ia memeriksa terasnya di luar. Sebuah kotak tergeletak di dekat keset.

"I did not see this before," Emil says. "The driver left it at the wrong house," Jocelyn explains.

"Tadi saya belum melihat ini," kata Emil. "Kurirnya meninggalkannya di rumah yang salah," Jocelyn menjelaskan.

Emil carries the box over to her. "I am sorry about that," he says. "It happens sometimes," Jocelyn answers.

Emil membawa kotak itu ke rumah Jocelyn. "Saya minta maaf soal itu," katanya. "Hal begini kadang terjadi," jawab Jocelyn.

She carries the box inside her house. She opens it and finds her lamp. It is safe and not broken.

Ia membawa kotak itu masuk ke rumah. Ia membukanya dan menemukan lampunya. Lampu itu aman dan tidak rusak.

Jocelyn sets the lamp on her table. She plugs it in and turns it on. Warm light fills the room.

Jocelyn meletakkan lampu di mejanya. Ia memasang kabelnya dan menyalakannya. Cahaya hangat memenuhi ruangan.
