The Lukewarm Coffee Maker

Marisela's coffee maker stopped making hot coffee. Every cup came out barely warm. She tried it three mornings in a row.

Mesin kopi Marisela berhenti membuat kopi panas. Setiap cangkir keluar hanya hangat-hangat kuku. Ia mencobanya tiga pagi berturut-turut.

She carried the machine to a repair shop downtown. A man behind the counter smiled at her. His name tag said Reggie.

Ia membawa mesin itu ke bengkel reparasi di pusat kota. Seorang pria di balik meja tersenyum kepadanya. Papan namanya bertuliskan Reggie.

"My coffee maker only makes warm coffee," Marisela said. "It worked fine last month."

"Mesin kopi saya hanya membuat kopi hangat," kata Marisela. "Bulan lalu masih baik-baik saja."

Reggie plugged in the machine and ran water through it. He watched the water come out slowly. "I see the problem," he said.

Reggie menancapkan kabel mesin itu dan mengalirkan air melaluinya. Ia memperhatikan air keluar dengan lambat. "Saya tahu masalahnya," katanya.

"A small valve inside is blocked," Reggie explained. "The water does not heat up fully."

"Sebuah katup kecil di dalamnya tersumbat," jelas Reggie. "Airnya tidak menjadi panas sepenuhnya."

He opened a small panel on the side. He cleaned the valve with a thin brush. Small bits of mineral came out.

Ia membuka sebuah panel kecil di sisinya. Ia membersihkan katup itu dengan sikat tipis. Serpihan-serpihan kecil mineral keluar.

"This happens after months of hard water," Reggie said. He rinsed the valve under the tap. Then he dried it with a cloth.

"Ini terjadi setelah berbulan-bulan memakai air sadah," kata Reggie. Ia membilas katup itu di bawah keran. Lalu ia mengeringkannya dengan kain.

Reggie ran water through the machine again. Steam rose from the top this time. "Now it heats up properly," he said.

Reggie mengalirkan air melalui mesin itu lagi. Kali ini uap naik dari bagian atasnya. "Sekarang sudah panas dengan benar," katanya.

He made a fresh cup for her. Marisela took a careful sip. Her face lit up with surprise.

Ia membuatkan secangkir kopi segar untuknya. Marisela menyesapnya dengan hati-hati. Wajahnya berseri karena terkejut.

"That's hot!" she said happily. "Thank you very much, Reggie."

"Panas!" katanya dengan gembira. "Terima kasih banyak, Reggie."

Reggie explained how to clean it every month. Marisela wrote a note on her phone. She paid the bill and picked up her machine.

Reggie menjelaskan cara membersihkannya setiap bulan. Marisela menulis catatan di ponselnya. Ia membayar tagihannya dan mengambil mesinnya.

She walked home with her clean coffee maker. The next morning, she made a fresh pot. The coffee came out hot and strong.

Ia berjalan pulang membawa mesin kopinya yang bersih. Keesokan paginya, ia menyeduh seteko kopi segar. Kopinya keluar panas dan pekat.
