The Library Notes

Eero went to the library every day after school. He liked the long wooden tables and the quiet. That Tuesday, a girl sat down at the next table. She had a thick book and a red pencil.

एरो हर दिन स्कूल के बाद लाइब्रेरी जाता था। उसे लंबी लकड़ी की मेज़ें और वहाँ की शांति पसंद थी। उस मंगलवार को बगल की मेज़ पर एक लड़की आकर बैठी। उसके पास एक मोटी किताब और एक लाल पेंसिल थी।

He looked at her book. It was about the stars. He wanted to ask her something. But a sign on the wall said, "Silence, please."

उसने लड़की की किताब देखी। वह तारों के बारे में थी। वह उससे कुछ पूछना चाहता था। लेकिन दीवार पर लगा एक बोर्ड कह रहा था, "कृपया शांति रखें।"

So Eero took a small piece of paper from his notebook. He wrote, "Do you like stars?" and pushed it across the table.

इसलिए एरो ने अपनी कॉपी से काग़ज़ का एक छोटा टुकड़ा फाड़ा। उसने लिखा, "क्या तुम्हें तारे पसंद हैं?" और उसे मेज़ पर आगे सरका दिया।

The girl read it and smiled. She wrote under his question, "Yes. Do you?" Then she pushed the paper back.

लड़की ने पढ़ा और मुस्कुरा दी। उसने उसके सवाल के नीचे लिखा, "हाँ। और तुम्हें?" फिर उसने काग़ज़ वापस सरका दिया।

They wrote notes all afternoon. Her name was Pilar. She wanted to be a pilot. Eero wrote that he liked music and bad jokes. One joke was so bad that she covered her mouth.

वे पूरी दोपहर एक-दूसरे को पर्चियाँ लिखते रहे। उसका नाम पिलार था। वह पायलट बनना चाहती थी। एरो ने लिखा कि उसे संगीत और बेकार चुटकुले पसंद हैं। एक चुटकुला इतना बेकार था कि पिलार ने अपने मुँह पर हाथ रख लिया।

After one hour, a tall woman walked to their table. It was the librarian. She looked at the pile of paper notes. Eero and Pilar looked at each other. Their faces went white.

एक घंटे बाद एक लंबी महिला उनकी मेज़ तक आई। वह लाइब्रेरियन थी। उसने काग़ज़ की पर्चियों का ढेर देखा। एरो और पिलार ने एक-दूसरे की तरफ़ देखा। उनके चेहरे सफ़ेद पड़ गए।

"I am sorry," Eero said, very low. "We did not talk. We only wrote."

"मुझे माफ़ कीजिए," एरो ने बहुत धीमे से कहा। "हमने बात नहीं की। हमने बस लिखा।"

"I know," the librarian said. "I watched you for an hour. Come with me."

"मुझे पता है," लाइब्रेरियन ने कहा। "मैं एक घंटे से तुम्हें देख रही थी। मेरे साथ आओ।"

She took them to a small room at the back. It had a table, four chairs, and a door. "This is a quiet room for study groups," she said. "You can talk here. Just keep the door closed."

वह उन्हें पीछे के एक छोटे कमरे में ले गई। उसमें एक मेज़, चार कुर्सियाँ और एक दरवाज़ा था। "यह पढ़ाई करने वाले समूहों के लिए शांत कमरा है," उसने कहा। "तुम यहाँ बात कर सकते हो। बस दरवाज़ा बंद रखना।"

Pilar looked at Eero and said, "Now we can talk."

पिलार ने एरो की तरफ़ देखा और कहा, "अब हम बात कर सकते हैं।"
