Tao and Yuki paddle a canoe on a wide river. The morning starts clear and calm. Thick fog rolls in around midday. Soon, they cannot see the shore clearly. Their paddles dip quietly into the gray water.
ताओ और यूकी एक चौड़ी नदी में डोंगी चला रहे हैं। सुबह साफ़ और शांत शुरू होती है। दोपहर के आसपास घना कोहरा छा जाता है। जल्दी ही उन्हें किनारा साफ़ नहीं दिखता। उनके चप्पू ख़ामोशी से स्लेटी पानी में उतरते हैं।
"We drifted off our usual path," Tao says. Yuki checks the small map in her bag.
"हम अपने रोज़ के रास्ते से भटक गए हैं," ताओ कहता है। यूकी अपने बैग से छोटा नक़्शा देखती है।
Two routes lead back to the dock. One route cuts straight through a narrow marsh. The other route follows the wide, open river.
घाट तक लौटने के दो रास्ते हैं। एक रास्ता एक तंग दलदल से सीधे निकलता है। दूसरा रास्ता चौड़ी, खुली नदी के साथ-साथ जाता है।
"The marsh route looks quick," Tao says. "But the water there gets shallow and rocky."
"दलदल वाला रास्ता जल्दी का लगता है," ताओ कहता है। "लेकिन वहाँ पानी उथला और चट्टानों वाला हो जाता है।"
"The river route takes more time," Yuki says. "It stays open and safe the whole way."
"नदी वाले रास्ते में ज़्यादा समय लगेगा," यूकी कहती है। "लेकिन वह पूरे रास्ते खुला और सुरक्षित रहता है।"
Tao thinks about the fog and the rocks. "Let's take the safe route," he finally says. Yuki nods and steers the canoe right.
ताओ कोहरे और चट्टानों के बारे में सोचता है। "चलो सुरक्षित रास्ता लेते हैं," वह आख़िर में कहता है। यूकी सिर हिलाती है और डोंगी को दाएँ मोड़ देती है।
They paddle along the wide, open river. The fog slowly lifts around them. Sunlight breaks through in warm, soft patches.

After thirty minutes, the dock comes into view. Tao points at it and smiles with relief.
तीस मिनट बाद घाट नज़र आने लगता है। ताओ उसकी ओर इशारा करता है और राहत भरी मुस्कान देता है।
"Good choice," Yuki says. "We stayed dry and safe."

They pull the canoe onto the sandy shore. Tao looks back toward the quiet, misty marsh. "Next time, with clear skies," he says. Yuki folds the small map and laughs softly. They carry the canoe up to the car together.
