It is Saturday, and the market is busy. Lupita walks between the stalls. She needs tomatoes for her mom.
Es sábado y el mercado está lleno de gente. Lupita camina entre los puestos. Necesita tomates para su mamá.
Many people talk and laugh. Then she hears crying. A small boy stands alone by a box of oranges. His face is wet.
Mucha gente habla y se ríe. Entonces oye un llanto. Un niño pequeño está solo junto a una caja de naranjas. Tiene la cara mojada.
Lupita kneels down. "Hello," she says. "What is your name?"
Lupita se agacha. «Hola», dice. «¿Cómo te llamas?»
"Teo," the boy says.
«Teo», dice el niño.
"Where is your dad, Teo?"
«¿Dónde está tu papá, Teo?»
"I don't know," he says. He cries again.
«No sé», dice él. Vuelve a llorar.
"It is okay," Lupita says. "Let's look for him together. What does your dad wear?"
«Está bien», dice Lupita. «Vamos a buscarlo juntos. ¿Qué lleva puesto tu papá?»
"A yellow hat."
«Un sombrero amarillo.»
"Good. Hold my hand."
«Bien. Dame la mano.»
They walk through the market. Lupita looks for a yellow hat. She sees many people, but no yellow hat.
Caminan por el mercado. Lupita busca un sombrero amarillo. Ve a mucha gente, pero ningún sombrero amarillo.
"Where did you see your dad last?" she asks.
«¿Dónde viste a tu papá por última vez?», pregunta.
"At the fruit stall," Teo says. "He buys apples."
«En el puesto de frutas», dice Teo. «Estaba comprando manzanas.»
"Then let's go there and wait," she says.
«Entonces vamos allá y esperamos», dice ella.
They stand by the fruit stall. The seller gives Teo a slice of apple. He stops crying and eats it.
Se quedan junto al puesto de frutas. El vendedor le da a Teo una rebanada de manzana. Deja de llorar y se la come.
Soon a man in a yellow hat runs to them. "Teo!" he shouts. Teo runs to him, and the man picks him up.
Pronto un hombre con un sombrero amarillo corre hacia ellos. «¡Teo!», grita. Teo corre hacia él, y el hombre lo levanta en brazos.
"Thank you," the dad says. He gives Lupita a big red apple.
«Gracias», dice el papá. Le da a Lupita una manzana roja y grande.
She takes it and goes back to find her tomatoes.
Ella la toma y regresa a buscar sus tomates.
