It is Saturday, and the market is busy. Lupita walks between the stalls. She needs tomatoes for her mom.
É sábado e a feira está cheia. Lupita anda entre as barracas. Ela precisa de tomates para a mãe.
Many people talk and laugh. Then she hears crying. A small boy stands alone by a box of oranges. His face is wet.
Muitas pessoas conversam e riem.
Lupita kneels down. "Hello," she says. "What is your name?"
Lupita se agacha. "Oi", diz ela. "Qual é o seu nome?"
"Teo," the boy says.
"Teo", diz o menino.
"Where is your dad, Teo?"
"Onde está o seu pai, Teo?"
"I don't know," he says. He cries again.
"Não sei", ele diz. Ele chora de novo.
"It is okay," Lupita says. "Let's look for him together. What does your dad wear?"
"Tudo bem", diz Lupita. "Vamos procurar por ele juntos. O que o seu pai está vestindo?"
"A yellow hat."
"Um chapéu amarelo."
"Good. Hold my hand."
"Ótimo. Segure a minha mão."
They walk through the market. Lupita looks for a yellow hat. She sees many people, but no yellow hat.
Eles andam pela feira. Lupita procura um chapéu amarelo. Ela vê muitas pessoas, mas nenhum chapéu amarelo.
"Where did you see your dad last?" she asks.
"Onde você viu o seu pai pela última vez?", ela pergunta.
"At the fruit stall," Teo says. "He buys apples."
"Na barraca de frutas", diz Teo. "Ele compra maçãs."
"Then let's go there and wait," she says.
"Então vamos até lá e esperar", ela diz.
They stand by the fruit stall. The seller gives Teo a slice of apple. He stops crying and eats it.
Soon a man in a yellow hat runs to them. "Teo!" he shouts. Teo runs to him, and the man picks him up.
"Teo!", ele grita. Teo corre para ele, e o homem o pega no colo.
"Thank you," the dad says. He gives Lupita a big red apple.
"Obrigado", diz o pai. Ele dá a Lupita uma grande maçã vermelha.
She takes it and goes back to find her tomatoes.
