The Carpool That Started With a Wrong Turn

A coworker sets up Rosalind and Pablo to share a new carpool, and a wrong turn on their first drive together gives them something to laugh about.

Rosalind starts a new job across town in September. Her coworker Fatima suggests she carpool with Pablo, who lives nearby. Rosalind agrees. She feels a little nervous about meeting someone new.
Rosalind empieza un nuevo trabajo al otro lado de la ciudad en septiembre. Su compañera Fatima le sugiere compartir el auto con Pablo, que vive cerca. Rosalind acepta. Se siente un poco nerviosa por conocer a alguien nuevo.
On the first morning, Pablo picks her up at seven. They introduce themselves and talk about the new job. Pablo checks his phone for directions.
La primera mañana, Pablo la recoge a las siete. Se presentan y hablan sobre el nuevo trabajo. Pablo revisa su celular para ver las indicaciones.
"Turn left here," Rosalind says, reading the map on her phone. Pablo turns left, but the street ends at a small park. "That's strange," he says. "This isn't the way to the office."
«Da vuelta a la izquierda aquí», dice Rosalind, leyendo el mapa en su celular. Pablo da vuelta a la izquierda, pero la calle termina en un pequeño parque. «Qué raro», dice él. «Este no es el camino a la oficina».
They stop the car and check both phones together. "Wait," Pablo says. "Your map says Oak Street. Mine says Oak Avenue." They both laugh at the mix-up.
Detienen el auto y revisan los dos celulares juntos. «Espera», dice Pablo. «Tu mapa dice Oak Street. El mío dice Oak Avenue». Ambos se ríen de la confusión.
"That explains it," Rosalind says. "Two streets with almost the same name." They turn the car around and find the correct road.
«Eso lo explica», dice Rosalind. «Dos calles con nombres casi idénticos». Dan vuelta al auto y encuentran el camino correcto.
They arrive at the office five minutes late. "Well, that was a good start," Pablo says, laughing. "Next time, I'll double-check the street name," Rosalind says.
Llegan a la oficina cinco minutos tarde. «Bueno, ese fue un buen comienzo», dice Pablo, riendo. «La próxima vez, verificaré bien el nombre de la calle», dice Rosalind.
From that day, Rosalind and Pablo carpool together every morning. They still laugh about that first wrong turn.
