There are posters on every lamp post on Chen's street. They say, "LOST CAT. Orange, with one white foot. Please call." Under the words is a phone number.
Every morning, Chen walks past the bakery on his way to school. Every morning, an orange cat sleeps in the window by the bread. Chen stops and looks at it for a long time.
"Is it the same cat?" he asks himself. Many cats are orange. He needs to see the foot.
On Thursday, he gets to the bakery early. The cat sits up and stretches. One front foot is white, like a small sock. Chen's heart beats fast.
He reads the number on a poster and calls it. A woman answers at once.
"I think I see your cat," Chen says. "He is in the bakery on my street."
"I will come now," the woman says. "My name is Olga."
Ten minutes later, she runs down the street. She opens the bakery door, and the cat jumps into her arms.
The baker comes out from behind the counter. "I feed him every morning," she says. "I give him a little fish. I thought he had no home."
"He has a home," Olga says. "But he found a second breakfast."
She thanks Chen and the baker. Chen walks to the nearest lamp post and takes down the poster.
