Xavi's grandpa lives alone in a small house. The evenings are quiet for him. Xavi and his mom want to get him a pet. They sit at the kitchen table with a list.
哈维的爷爷一个人住在一间小房子里。对他来说，夜晚很安静。哈维和妈妈想给他买个宠物。他们坐在厨房的桌子旁，面前放着一张清单。
"A robot dog is easy," his mom says. "It needs no food. It needs no walks."
“机器狗很省事，”妈妈说。“它不用吃东西。也不用遛。”
Xavi nods. "It can call us if Grandpa falls. But it costs a lot of money. And it needs a new battery every night."
哈维点点头。“爷爷要是摔倒了，它可以给我们打电话。可是它要花很多钱。而且每天晚上都要换新电池。”
"The cat is different," his mom says. "She is at the animal shelter. She is ten years old, and nobody wants her."
“猫就不一样了，”妈妈说。“她在动物收容所。她十岁了，没有人要她。”
"A cat needs food and a clean box," says Xavi. "But she is calm, and she is cheap."
“猫要吃东西，还要有干净的猫砂盆，”哈维说。“不过她很安静，也很便宜。”
They think for a long time. Both ideas are good.
他们想了很久。两个主意都很好。
"Let's ask Grandpa," Xavi says. His mom agrees.
“我们问问爷爷吧，”哈维说。妈妈同意了。
On Sunday, they take Grandpa to a shop. A robot dog sits on a table. Its eyes light up. It barks and moves its head. Grandpa looks at it. "It is clever," he says.
星期天，他们带爷爷去了一家商店。一只机器狗坐在桌子上。它的眼睛亮了起来。它叫了几声，还转动着脑袋。爷爷看着它。“它很聪明，”他说。
Then they go to the shelter. The old cat sits in a box. She looks at Grandpa. She walks slowly to him and sits on his knee.

Grandpa touches her back. "Why this one?" Xavi asks.
爷爷摸着她的背。“为什么选这只？”哈维问。
Grandpa smiles. "It is warm," he says.
爷爷笑了。“它是暖和的，”他说。
