Naomi does her homework every night after dinner. Tonight, she sits at her desk. Her lamp is on, and her laptop is open. She writes her homework for school.

Her brother Eli plays a video game nearby. Her mom washes the dishes in the kitchen. Her dad reads a book on the sofa. The house is warm and quiet.
她的弟弟伊莱在附近玩电子游戏。妈妈在厨房里洗碗。爸爸坐在沙发上看书。屋子里温暖而安静。
Suddenly, the lights go out. The television turns off too. Eli shouts, "Hey! What happened?"
突然，灯灭了。电视也关了。伊莱喊道：“嘿！怎么回事？”
Naomi looks up from her desk. Her laptop screen turns black. "The power is out," she says.
娜奥米从书桌上抬起头。她的电脑屏幕变黑了。“停电了。”她说。
Her dad stands up in the dark. "Everyone stay calm," he says. "Let's find the flashlights."
爸爸在黑暗中站了起来。“大家保持冷静。”他说。“我们去找手电筒。”
Her mom lights two candles in the kitchen. The candles make small, warm circles of light. Eli finds a flashlight in a drawer.
妈妈在厨房点了两支蜡烛。蜡烛投出一圈圈小小的、温暖的光。伊莱在抽屉里找到了一支手电筒。
"This is fun," Eli says with a smile.
“这真好玩。”伊莱笑着说。
Naomi closes her laptop. She can't finish her homework now. She picks up a candle. She walks to the living room.
娜奥米合上了电脑。她现在没法写完作业了。她拿起一支蜡烛，走向客厅。
The family sits together near the candles. Dad tells a story from long ago. Mom hums a quiet song. Eli makes funny shadows on the wall.
一家人围坐在蜡烛旁。爸爸讲了一个很久以前的故事。妈妈轻轻哼着一首歌。伊莱在墙上做出各种有趣的影子。
Naomi watches the shadows and starts to laugh. For once, nobody looks at a screen.
娜奥米看着那些影子，笑了起来。难得一次，没有人看屏幕。
After an hour, the lights come back on. But nobody moves to turn on the television.
一个小时后，灯重新亮了。可是没有人起身去开电视。
"Let's finish the story first," Naomi says.
