The Broken Guitar String

Bilal sits backstage with his guitar. The school concert starts in ten minutes. He is ready.

Bilal está sentado nos bastidores com o violão. O show da escola começa em dez minutos. Ele está pronto.

He plays one last song. Then a string breaks with a loud sound. It hangs from the neck of the guitar.

Ele toca uma última música. Então uma corda arrebenta com um barulho alto. Ela fica pendurada no braço do violão.

His face goes white. "Oh no," he says.

O rosto dele fica pálido. "Ah, não", diz ele.

He runs to the music teacher. "I need a new string!" he says.

Ele corre até a professora de música. "Preciso de uma corda nova!", diz.

The teacher looks in her box. "I have no strings," she says. "I am so sorry."

A professora procura na caixa dela. "Não tenho cordas", diz. "Sinto muito."

Bilal sits on a chair. His hands shake. He thinks about going home.

Bilal se senta numa cadeira. As mãos dele tremem. Ele pensa em ir para casa.

An older girl sits next to him. Her name is Lotte. She plays in the school band.

Uma menina mais velha se senta ao lado dele. O nome dela é Lotte. Ela toca na banda da escola.

"What is wrong?" she asks.

"O que houve?", ela pergunta.

"My string broke," he says. "I cannot play."

"Minha corda arrebentou", ele diz. "Não posso tocar."

Lotte looks at his guitar. Then she points at a black case. "Use my guitar," she says.

Lotte olha para o violão dele. Depois aponta para um estojo preto. "Use o meu violão", diz.

"Are you sure?" Bilal asks.

"Tem certeza?", pergunta Bilal.

"Yes. Go and play well."

"Tenho. Vá e toque bem."

Bilal takes the guitar. It feels a little different, but it is nice. The teacher calls his name.

Bilal pega o violão. Ele é um pouco diferente, mas é bom. A professora chama o nome dele.

He walks onto the stage. The lights are bright. He sits down and plays the first note. It sounds clear and warm.

Ele sobe ao palco. As luzes estão fortes. Ele se senta e toca a primeira nota. O som é claro e quente.
