Bilal sits backstage with his guitar. The school concert starts in ten minutes. He is ready.
Bilal está sentado tras bambalinas con su guitarra. El concierto de la escuela empieza en diez minutos. Está listo.
He plays one last song. Then a string breaks with a loud sound. It hangs from the neck of the guitar.
Toca una última canción. Entonces una cuerda se rompe con un ruido fuerte. Cuelga del mástil de la guitarra.
His face goes white. "Oh no," he says.
Se pone pálido. «Ay, no», dice.
He runs to the music teacher. "I need a new string!" he says.
Corre hacia la maestra de música. «¡Necesito una cuerda nueva!», dice.
The teacher looks in her box. "I have no strings," she says. "I am so sorry."
La maestra busca en su caja. «No tengo cuerdas», dice. «Lo siento muchísimo.»
Bilal sits on a chair. His hands shake. He thinks about going home.
Bilal se sienta en una silla. Le tiemblan las manos. Piensa en irse a casa.
An older girl sits next to him. Her name is Lotte. She plays in the school band.
Una chica mayor se sienta a su lado. Se llama Lotte. Toca en la banda de la escuela.
"What is wrong?" she asks.
«¿Qué pasa?», pregunta.
"My string broke," he says. "I cannot play."
«Se me rompió una cuerda», dice él. «No puedo tocar.»
Lotte looks at his guitar. Then she points at a black case. "Use my guitar," she says.
Lotte mira su guitarra. Luego señala un estuche negro. «Usa mi guitarra», dice.
"Are you sure?" Bilal asks.
«¿Seguro?», pregunta Bilal.
"Yes. Go and play well."
«Sí. Anda y toca bien.»
Bilal takes the guitar. It feels a little different, but it is nice. The teacher calls his name.
Bilal toma la guitarra. Se siente un poco diferente, pero es agradable. La maestra dice su nombre.
He walks onto the stage. The lights are bright. He sits down and plays the first note. It sounds clear and warm.
Sube al escenario. Las luces son brillantes. Se sienta y toca la primera nota. Suena clara y cálida.
