The Community Cleanup Day

Corey signs up for the neighborhood cleanup day. It is Saturday morning. The small park is busy already. Volunteers wear yellow vests and carry big trash bags. Corey picks up cans and old newspapers near the swings.

Corey mendaftar untuk hari bersih-bersih lingkungan. Hari itu Sabtu pagi. Taman kecil itu sudah ramai. Para sukarelawan memakai rompi kuning dan membawa kantong sampah besar. Corey memungut kaleng dan koran bekas di dekat ayunan.

An elderly woman walks slowly past the park gate. She pulls a small cart full of leaf bags. One bag falls and rips open on the sidewalk. Leaves spill across the path.

Seorang perempuan lanjut usia berjalan pelan melewati gerbang taman. Ia menarik sebuah gerobak kecil penuh kantong daun. Satu kantong jatuh dan robek di trotoar. Daun-daun berserakan di jalan setapak.

Corey puts down the trash bag. Corey walks over to help. "Do you need some help?" Corey asks.

Corey meletakkan kantong sampahnya. Corey berjalan menghampiri untuk membantu. "Perlu bantuan?" tanya Corey.

"Oh, thank you," the woman says. "My name is Della. These bags are heavy today."

"Oh, terima kasih," kata perempuan itu. "Namaku Della. Kantong-kantong ini berat sekali hari ini."

Corey picks up the loose leaves. Corey puts them in a new bag. Della points across the street. "I need to get these to the curb," she says.

Corey memungut daun-daun yang berserakan. Corey memasukkannya ke kantong baru. Della menunjuk ke seberang jalan. "Aku harus membawa ini ke tepi jalan," katanya.

Together, they push the cart down the sidewalk. Corey carries two big bags. Della carries one bag. They stop once to rest.

Bersama-sama, mereka mendorong gerobak itu menyusuri trotoar. Corey membawa dua kantong besar. Della membawa satu kantong. Mereka berhenti sekali untuk beristirahat.

At the curb, they stack the bags in a row. Della wipes her hands and smiles. "Thank you so much," she says.

Di tepi jalan, mereka menumpuk kantong-kantong itu berderet. Della mengelap tangannya dan tersenyum. "Terima kasih banyak," katanya.

"It was easy," Corey says. "I was already outside."

"Gampang kok," kata Corey. "Aku memang sedang di luar."

Della looks at Corey's yellow vest. "Is there a cleanup day every year?" she asks.

Della memandang rompi kuning Corey. "Apakah hari bersih-bersih ini ada setiap tahun?" tanyanya.

"Yes, every fall," Corey says. "You can come next time."

"Ya, setiap musim gugur," kata Corey. "Kamu boleh ikut lain kali."

Della nods slowly. "Maybe next year," she says. "I like exercise."

Della mengangguk pelan. "Mungkin tahun depan," katanya. "Aku suka berolahraga."

"Bring gloves," Corey says with a smile. "We always need extra volunteers."

"Bawa sarung tangan," kata Corey sambil tersenyum. "Kami selalu butuh tambahan sukarelawan."

Corey waves and jogs back into the park. The other volunteers are almost done near the swings. Corey picks up the trash bag again. Corey gets back to work.

Corey melambai dan berlari kecil kembali ke taman. Para sukarelawan lain hampir selesai di dekat ayunan. Corey mengambil kantong sampahnya lagi. Corey kembali bekerja.
