Isla planned a two-week work trip. She loved her plant on the porch. It needed water every two days. She forgot to ask for help.
आइला ने दो हफ़्ते की काम की यात्रा की योजना बनाई। उसे बरामदे में रखा अपना पौधा बहुत प्यारा था। उसे हर दो दिन में पानी चाहिए था। वह किसी से मदद माँगना भूल गई।
She left early on a Monday morning. She thought about her plant the whole time. The plant needed water, and she was away.
वह सोमवार की सुबह जल्दी निकल गई। वह पूरे समय अपने पौधे के बारे में सोचती रही। पौधे को पानी चाहिए था, और वह दूर थी।
Two weeks later, Isla came home. She walked straight to the porch. The plant looked green and healthy. Isla stared at it in surprise.
दो हफ़्ते बाद आइला घर लौटी। वह सीधे बरामदे में गई। पौधा हरा-भरा और सेहतमंद दिख रहा था। आइला हैरानी से उसे देखती रह गई।
"How is this plant still alive?" she said.
"यह पौधा अब तक ज़िंदा कैसे है?" उसने कहा।
She looked around the porch for clues. A small watering can sat by the door. It was not her watering can.
उसने सुराग़ के लिए बरामदे में चारों ओर देखा। दरवाज़े के पास एक छोटी-सी झारी रखी थी। वह उसकी अपनी झारी नहीं थी।
Isla knocked on her neighbor's door. A young girl named Junie opened it.
आइला ने अपने पड़ोसी का दरवाज़ा खटखटाया। जूनी नाम की एक छोटी लड़की ने दरवाज़ा खोला।
"Did you water my plant?" Isla asked.
"क्या तुमने मेरे पौधे को पानी दिया?" आइला ने पूछा।
Junie nodded and smiled a big smile. "I saw it from my window," she said. "The soil looked dry every single day. I used my own watering can."
जूनी ने सिर हिलाया और बड़ी मुस्कान के साथ बोली। "मैंने उसे अपनी खिड़की से देखा था," उसने कहा। "मिट्टी हर दिन सूखी लगती थी। मैंने अपनी झारी से पानी दिया।"
"That was very kind of you," Isla said. "I did not even ask for help."
"तुमने बहुत भला काम किया," आइला ने कहा। "मैंने तो मदद माँगी भी नहीं थी।"
"I like plants," Junie said simply. "I water my own plants too."
"मुझे पौधे पसंद हैं," जूनी ने सहजता से कहा। "मैं अपने पौधों को भी पानी देती हूँ।"
Isla thanked Junie again and again. She gave Junie a small potted flower. "For your good work," Isla said.
आइला ने जूनी को बार-बार धन्यवाद दिया। उसने जूनी को गमले में लगा एक छोटा फूल दिया। "तुम्हारे अच्छे काम के लिए," आइला ने कहा।
Junie held the flower with both hands. She promised to water that one too.
जूनी ने फूल को दोनों हाथों में पकड़ लिया। उसने वादा किया कि वह उसे भी पानी देगी।
Now, Isla waters her own plant. But she waves at Junie's window first.
अब आइला अपने पौधे को ख़ुद पानी देती है। पर पहले वह जूनी की खिड़की की ओर हाथ हिलाती है।
