The New Face at the Hiking Club

Kestrel led hikes for her local club every month. She knew every trail well. New members often felt nervous on their first hike.

केस्ट्रल अपने स्थानीय क्लब की हाइक हर महीने करवाती थी। वह हर रास्ते को अच्छी तरह जानती थी। नए सदस्य अक्सर अपनी पहली हाइक पर घबराए रहते थे।

One Saturday, she noticed a man near the wrong trailhead. He checked his phone and looked around. He seemed lost and unsure.

एक शनिवार उसने ग़लत ट्रेलहेड के पास एक आदमी को देखा। वह अपना फ़ोन देख रहा था और इधर-उधर नज़र दौड़ा रहा था। वह खोया हुआ और उलझन में लग रहा था।

Kestrel walked over and smiled. "Are you here for the hiking club?" she asked. "I'm Kestrel. I lead today's hike."

केस्ट्रल उसके पास गई और मुस्कुराई। "क्या आप हाइकिंग क्लब के लिए आए हैं?" उसने पूछा। "मैं केस्ट्रल हूँ। आज की हाइक मैं करवा रही हूँ।"

"Yes, I'm Ilyas," he said. "I think I found the wrong spot." He pointed at a small sign near the parking lot.

"हाँ, मैं इल्यास हूँ," उसने कहा। "लगता है मैं ग़लत जगह पहुँच गया।" उसने पार्किंग के पास लगे एक छोटे साइन की ओर इशारा किया।

"That sign is old," Kestrel said. "Our group meets at the north entrance now." She waved for him to follow her.

"वह साइन पुराना है," केस्ट्रल ने कहा। "हमारा ग्रुप अब उत्तरी प्रवेश द्वार पर मिलता है।" उसने हाथ से इशारा किया कि वह उसके पीछे आए।

They walked together across the parking lot. Kestrel pointed out landmarks along the way. Ilyas relaxed with each step.

वे साथ-साथ पार्किंग लॉट पार करने लगे। केस्ट्रल रास्ते में पड़ने वाली निशानियाँ बताती गई। हर क़दम के साथ इल्यास का मन हल्का होता गया।

At the north entrance, ten hikers waited by a bench. Kestrel introduced Ilyas to the group. Everyone said hello and shook his hand.

उत्तरी प्रवेश द्वार पर दस हाइकर एक बेंच के पास इंतज़ार कर रहे थे। केस्ट्रल ने इल्यास को ग्रुप से मिलवाया। सबने नमस्ते कही और उससे हाथ मिलाया।

During the hike, Kestrel checked on Ilyas often. She showed him where the trail turned steep. He walked well for a first hike.

हाइक के दौरान केस्ट्रल बार-बार इल्यास का हाल पूछती रही। उसने उसे दिखाया कि रास्ता कहाँ तीखी चढ़ाई वाला हो जाता है। पहली हाइक के हिसाब से वह अच्छा चला।

At the top, the group stopped to rest. Ilyas took a photo of the wide view. He thanked Kestrel for her help that day.

ऊपर पहुँचकर ग्रुप आराम करने रुका। इल्यास ने चौड़े नज़ारे की एक तस्वीर खींची। उसने उस दिन की मदद के लिए केस्ट्रल को शुक्रिया कहा।

"Same time next month?" Kestrel asked. Ilyas nodded and tied his shoe. "I already marked it on my calendar."

"अगले महीने इसी समय?" केस्ट्रल ने पूछा। इल्यास ने सिर हिलाया और अपने जूते का फ़ीता बाँधा। "मैंने तो अपने कैलेंडर में पहले ही निशान लगा लिया है।"

Months later, Ilyas led his own beginner hikes. He remembered how lost he once felt. He always checked for confused new faces.

कुछ महीनों बाद इल्यास ख़ुद शुरुआती लोगों की हाइक करवाने लगा। उसे याद था कि वह कभी कितना खोया-खोया महसूस करता था। वह हमेशा उलझन में पड़े नए चेहरों पर नज़र रखता था।
