The Fundraiser Sign-Up Sheet

Marisa sees a sign-up sheet at the community center. The town has a spring fundraiser this Saturday. Volunteers can help at the bake sale table. Or they can help at the used book table.

मारिसा को सामुदायिक केंद्र में एक साइन-अप शीट दिखती है। शहर में इस शनिवार वसंत का एक चंदा-कार्यक्रम है। स्वयंसेवक बेक सेल की मेज़ पर मदद कर सकते हैं। या वे इस्तेमाल की हुई किताबों की मेज़ पर मदद कर सकते हैं।

Marisa likes both jobs. She bakes cookies every weekend. She also reads three books a month. She cannot choose right away.

मारिसा को दोनों काम पसंद हैं। वह हर सप्ताहांत कुकीज़ बनाती है। वह महीने में तीन किताबें भी पढ़ती है। वह तुरंत चुन नहीं पाती।

She asks the organizer, Mr. Winslow, about both jobs. "The bake sale needs fast baking," he says. "The book table needs careful sorting."

Marisa thinks about her kitchen at home. She has cookie dough in the freezer already. She thinks about her bookshelf too. It is neat and full.

"I choose the bake sale," Marisa says. "I already have cookies ready to bake." She smiles. "Baking makes people happy fast."

"मैं बेक सेल चुनती हूँ," मारिसा कहती है। "मेरे पास बेक करने के लिए कुकीज़ पहले से तैयार हैं।" वह मुस्कुराती है। "बेकिंग लोगों को जल्दी ख़ुश कर देती है।"

Mr. Winslow writes her name on the list. "Perfect," he says. "We need forty dozen cookies by Saturday."

मिस्टर विंसलो सूची में उसका नाम लिख लेता है। "बहुत बढ़िया," वह कहता है। "हमें शनिवार तक चालीस दर्जन कुकीज़ चाहिए।"

Marisa laughs. "Forty dozen? I need extra butter!"

She walks home and checks her kitchen. She counts her eggs and her flour. She makes a shopping list for the store.

वह घर पैदल जाती है और अपनी रसोई देखती है। वह अपने अंडे और आटा गिनती है। वह दुकान के लिए ख़रीदारी की सूची बनाती है।

On Saturday morning, Marisa arrives early. She carries six full trays of cookies. She sets up the table. She lines up the treats in neat rows.

शनिवार सुबह मारिसा जल्दी पहुँच जाती है। वह कुकीज़ की छह भरी हुई ट्रे लेकर आती है। वह मेज़ सजाती है। वह मिठाइयों को सलीक़े से क़तारों में लगा देती है।

Many people come to her table. "These smell wonderful," says a woman at the front. "Can I get a dozen chocolate chip cookies?"

उसकी मेज़ पर बहुत लोग आते हैं। "इनकी ख़ुशबू कमाल की है," सबसे आगे खड़ी एक महिला कहती है। "क्या मुझे एक दर्जन चॉकलेट चिप कुकीज़ मिल सकती हैं?"

Marisa grabs a paper bag. "Here you go," she says.

मारिसा एक काग़ज़ का थैला उठाती है। "ये लीजिए," वह कहती है।

The line gets very long. Marisa waves at a boy from the book table. He waves back at her. Then he turns to help his own customers.

क़तार बहुत लंबी हो जाती है। मारिसा किताबों की मेज़ के एक लड़के की ओर हाथ हिलाती है। वह भी उसकी ओर हाथ हिलाता है। फिर वह अपने ग्राहकों की मदद करने मुड़ जाता है।
