Sunita and her friend Nuno walk in the hills. The day is hot and sunny.
They come to a small river. It is cold and clear. There is no bridge. Big stones lie in the water.
Llegan a un río pequeño. Es frío y cristalino. No hay puente. Hay piedras grandes en el agua.
"We can walk on the stones," Nuno says. He goes first, and he gets across.
«Podemos caminar sobre las piedras», dice Nuno. Él va primero y logra cruzar.
Sunita follows him slowly. The stones are wet. Halfway across, her foot slips.
Her left shoe falls into the water. Her sock is wet, too. It floats away down the river.
Su zapato izquierdo cae al agua. Su calcetín también se moja. Se aleja flotando río abajo.
"My shoe!" she shouts.
«¡Mi zapato!», grita.
Nuno laughs. Then he sees her face. "Run!" he says.
Nuno se ríe. Entonces ve la cara de ella. «¡Corre!», dice.
They run along the bank. The shoe is far ahead. It turns slowly in the water.
Corren a lo largo de la orilla. El zapato está muy adelante. Gira lentamente en el agua.
Nuno finds a long stick on the ground. "Take this," he says.
Sunita runs faster. The river turns left. The shoe stops by a big rock. She puts the stick out. She pulls the shoe to the bank.
"Got it!" she shouts. Nuno claps his hands.
«¡Lo tengo!», grita. Nuno aplaude.
She pours the water out of the shoe. It is cold and wet, but she puts it on.
"Next time, I carry my shoes," she says.
«La próxima vez, llevaré mis zapatos en la mano», dice.
