The Lighthouse Steps

Roo and his sister stand next to an old lighthouse. It is tall and white. A small door is open.

Roo y su hermana están junto a un faro viejo. Es alto y blanco. Una puerta pequeña está abierta.

"Let's count the steps," says his sister. "No talking!"

«Vamos a contar los escalones», dice su hermana. «¡Sin hablar!»

"Okay," says Roo.

«Está bien», dice Roo.

They start to climb. The steps go round and round. Roo counts in his head. His legs hurt. His sister walks in front. She counts with her lips.

Empiezan a subir. Los escalones dan vueltas y vueltas. Roo cuenta en su cabeza. Le duelen las piernas. Su hermana camina adelante. Cuenta moviendo los labios.

At the top, the wind is strong. The sea is blue and wide. Small boats sit on the water. The view is great. They sit on a bench to rest. They drink some water. Roo takes a photo of the sea.

Arriba, el viento es fuerte. El mar es azul y ancho. Hay barquitos sobre el agua. La vista es genial. Se sientan en una banca a descansar. Beben un poco de agua. Roo le toma una foto al mar.

"I counted 98 steps," Roo says.

«Conté 98 escalones», dice Roo.

"No, it is 102," says his sister. "You are wrong."

«No, son 102», dice su hermana. «Te equivocaste».

"No, you are wrong!" Roo says. They both frown.

«¡No, tú te equivocaste!», dice Roo. Los dos fruncen el ceño.

Then Roo sees a small sign on the wall. He reads it out loud. "This tower has 98 steps. Four more steps go to the lamp room."

Entonces Roo ve un letrero pequeño en la pared. Lo lee en voz alta. «Esta torre tiene 98 escalones. Cuatro escalones más llevan a la sala de la lámpara».

His sister reads it two times. "I counted the lamp room steps too," she says.

Su hermana lo lee dos veces. «Yo conté también los escalones de la sala de la lámpara», dice.

Roo laughs. "So I win!" His sister laughs and sits on the floor.

Roo se ríe. «¡Entonces gano yo!» Su hermana se ríe y se sienta en el suelo.
