Tom lived alone in a small house. He liked his house neat and quiet. One night, he heard a strange sound.
Tom vivía solo en una casa pequeña. Le gustaba tener su casa ordenada y tranquila. Una noche, escuchó un sonido extraño.
He got out of bed slowly. He walked to the kitchen in the dark. The sound got louder near the sink.
Se levantó de la cama despacio. Caminó hasta la cocina en la oscuridad. El sonido se hacía más fuerte cerca del fregadero.
A drip fell from the kitchen faucet. It went drip, drip, drip all night. The kitchen faucet leaked again.
Una gota caía del grifo de la cocina. Hacía gota, gota, gota toda la noche. El grifo de la cocina goteaba otra vez.
Tom put a bowl under the drip. He went back to bed. He could not sleep well. In the morning, he looked at it closely.
Tom puso un tazón debajo de la gota. Volvió a la cama. No pudo dormir bien. En la mañana, lo revisó de cerca.
Water dripped from a small rubber part inside. Tom did not know the name of the part. He decided to ask someone at the store.

Tom drove to the hardware store nearby. He showed the old part to the clerk. "You need a new washer," the clerk said. Tom bought one and a small wrench.
Tom manejó hasta la ferretería cercana. Le mostró la pieza vieja al empleado. «Necesita una arandela nueva», dijo el empleado. Tom compró una y una llave pequeña.
Back home, he turned off the water first. He took the faucet apart slowly. He removed the old, worn washer. He put the new washer in its place.
De vuelta en casa, primero cerró el agua. Desarmó el grifo despacio. Sacó la arandela vieja y desgastada. Puso la arandela nueva en su lugar.
Tom turned the water back on. He waited and watched the faucet closely. No drip came from the tap.
Tom abrió el agua otra vez. Esperó y observó el grifo con atención. Ninguna gota salió del grifo.
Tom smiled and dried his hands. He put his tools back in the drawer. He made a cup of tea and sat down. The kitchen was finally quiet again.
Tom sonrió y se secó las manos. Guardó sus herramientas en el cajón. Se preparó una taza de té y se sentó. La cocina finalmente estaba tranquila otra vez.
