The Lawn Robot Next Door

Chiara had a small, round robot. It cut the grass in her garden every Tuesday morning. She liked it very much.

Chiara tinha um robô pequeno e redondo. Ele cortava a grama do jardim dela toda terça-feira de manhã. Ela gostava muito dele.

One Tuesday, she looked out of the window. The robot was not on her grass. It was in the garden next door.

Numa terça-feira, ela olhou pela janela. O robô não estava na grama dela. Estava no jardim ao lado.

Her neighbor, an old man, stood at his back door. He watched the robot. It cut his grass in neat lines. He smiled and waved at Chiara.

O vizinho dela, um senhor idoso, estava na porta dos fundos. Ele observava o robô. Ele cortava a grama dele em linhas bem retas. O senhor sorriu e acenou para Chiara.

Chiara did not know what to say. She waved back and went inside.

Chiara não sabia o que dizer. Ela acenou de volta e entrou em casa.

The next Tuesday, the robot went next door again. The old man sat in his chair and watched it. He looked very happy.

Na terça-feira seguinte, o robô foi para a casa ao lado de novo. O senhor se sentou na cadeira e o observou. Ele parecia muito feliz.

On Wednesday, he knocked on her door. He had a cake in his hands. "This is for you," he said. "Thank you for the free grass. It is a very kind gift."

Na quarta-feira, ele bateu à porta dela. Tinha um bolo nas mãos. "Isto é para você", disse. "Obrigado pela grama de graça. É um presente muito gentil."

Chiara's face went red. "It is not a gift," she said. "It is a mistake. My robot goes to your garden by itself."

O rosto de Chiara ficou vermelho. "Não é um presente", disse ela. "É um engano. Meu robô vai ao seu jardim sozinho."

The old man laughed. He laughed so loudly that Chiara laughed too.

O senhor riu. Ele riu tão alto que Chiara riu também.

"Then it is a very kind mistake," he said. "Let us eat the cake."

"Então é um engano muito gentil", ele disse. "Vamos comer o bolo."

They sat in her kitchen. Chiara opened the robot app on her phone. She found a map of her garden. The robot's map was too big. It had a line around his garden too.

Eles se sentaram na cozinha dela. Chiara abriu o aplicativo do robô no celular. Ela encontrou um mapa do jardim dela. O mapa do robô estava grande demais. Ele tinha uma linha em volta do jardim do vizinho também.

She pressed a button and made the map smaller. Then she took a big piece of cake.

Ela apertou um botão e deixou o mapa menor. Depois pegou um pedaço grande de bolo.
