The Sunrise Climb

Odile and Ilya wanted to see the sunrise. At a quarter past five, they stood below Green Hill. It was still dark. The air was cold. They had bread and water in a bag.

Odile dan Ilya ingin melihat matahari terbit. Pukul lima lewat lima belas menit, mereka berdiri di kaki Bukit Hijau. Hari masih gelap. Udaranya dingin. Mereka membawa roti dan air dalam sebuah tas.

There were two paths. The short path was steep. It took thirty minutes. The long path was easy, but it took an hour.

Ada dua jalur. Jalur yang pendek itu curam. Butuh waktu tiga puluh menit. Jalur yang panjang itu landai, tapi butuh satu jam.

"The sun comes up at six," Odile said. "The long path is too slow."

"Matahari terbit pukul enam," kata Odile. "Jalur yang panjang terlalu lambat."

Ilya looked at the steep path. "It is dark, and the stones are big," he said.

Ilya melihat jalur yang curam. "Hari masih gelap, dan batu-batunya besar," katanya.

"I have a strong flashlight," Odile said. "We can see the stones."

"Aku punya senter yang terang," kata Odile. "Kita bisa melihat batu-batunya."

"And my knees?" Ilya asked.

"Bagaimana dengan lututku?" tanya Ilya.

"Your knees are good today," she said. "You ran to the bus!"

"Lututmu baik-baik saja hari ini," katanya. "Kamu tadi lari mengejar bus!"

Ilya laughed. "Okay. We take the short path."

Ilya tertawa. "Baiklah. Kita lewat jalur yang pendek."

They started to climb. The path was very steep. They stopped two times and drank water.

Mereka mulai mendaki. Jalurnya sangat curam. Mereka berhenti dua kali dan minum air.

At the top, the sky was pink and orange. Odile looked at her phone. It was one minute before six.

Di puncak, langit berwarna merah muda dan oranye. Odile melihat ponselnya. Satu menit lagi pukul enam.

They sat down on a big rock. Then the sun came up over the hills.

Mereka duduk di atas batu besar. Lalu matahari terbit di atas perbukitan.

"Just in time," Ilya said.

"Pas sekali," kata Ilya.
