The Fallen Tree Detour

Marta and Rafael drove the same road to the coast every summer. They knew every turn by heart.

Marta dan Rafael melewati jalan yang sama menuju pantai setiap musim panas. Mereka hafal setiap tikungannya.

This year, they left early and packed snacks for the drive. The radio played soft music.

Tahun ini, mereka berangkat pagi-pagi dan membawa camilan untuk perjalanan. Radio memutar musik yang lembut.

Twenty minutes from the coast, traffic stopped completely. A large tree fell across the road.

Dua puluh menit dari pantai, lalu lintas berhenti total. Sebatang pohon besar tumbang melintang di jalan.

A police officer stood near the tree and waved cars around. "The road is closed," he said. "Please take the next exit."

Seorang polisi berdiri di dekat pohon itu dan melambaikan tangan mengarahkan mobil-mobil memutar. "Jalan ditutup," katanya. "Silakan ambil pintu keluar berikutnya."

Marta looked at the map on her phone. "There's another road," she said, "but we never used it before."

Marta melihat peta di ponselnya. "Ada jalan lain," katanya, "tapi kita belum pernah lewat sana."

Rafael turned onto the narrow road. It curved through fields and past old farmhouses.

Rafael berbelok ke jalan yang sempit itu. Jalan itu berkelok melewati ladang dan rumah-rumah pertanian tua.

After a few minutes, they saw a small stand by the road. A sign said "Fresh Peaches."

Beberapa menit kemudian, mereka melihat sebuah lapak kecil di tepi jalan. Sebuah papan bertuliskan "Persik Segar."

"Let's stop," Marta said. "We have time now anyway."

"Ayo berhenti," kata Marta. "Toh sekarang kita punya waktu."

They bought a bag of peaches from a friendly farmer. He told them about his family's farm.

Mereka membeli sekantong persik dari seorang petani yang ramah. Ia bercerita tentang pertanian keluarganya.

The detour added twenty minutes to their trip. But they arrived at the coast with peaches and a good story.

Jalan memutar itu menambah dua puluh menit pada perjalanan mereka. Tetapi mereka tiba di pantai dengan membawa persik dan cerita yang bagus.

Rafael parked the car and looked at Marta. "We will take this road every year," he said.

Rafael memarkir mobil dan menatap Marta. "Kita akan lewat jalan ini setiap tahun," katanya.
