Missing the Last Bus

Ethan stays at his friend Owen's house after school. They do homework together and talk. Ethan looks at the clock. It is almost ten o'clock.

Ethan tinggal di rumah temannya, Owen, sepulang sekolah. Mereka mengerjakan PR bersama dan mengobrol. Ethan melihat jam. Hampir pukul sepuluh.

"I need to go home now," Ethan says. "My bus leaves soon."

"Aku harus pulang sekarang," kata Ethan. "Busku sebentar lagi berangkat."

He says goodbye to Owen and runs down the stairs. He runs all the way to the bus stop. He looks down the street. No bus is there.

Ia berpamitan kepada Owen dan berlari menuruni tangga. Ia berlari sepanjang jalan ke halte bus. Ia menengok ke ujung jalan. Tidak ada bus di sana.

Ethan checks the sign at the bus stop. The last bus left five minutes ago. He feels his phone in his pocket. He has no money for a taxi.

Ethan memeriksa papan di halte. Bus terakhir sudah berangkat lima menit lalu. Ia merasakan ponselnya di saku. Ia tidak punya uang untuk naik taksi.

Ethan thinks for a moment. He remembers the train station. It is not far from here. Trains run later than buses.

Ethan berpikir sejenak. Ia teringat stasiun kereta. Letaknya tidak jauh dari sini. Kereta beroperasi lebih malam daripada bus.

He starts to walk fast toward the station. The streets are quiet and dark. He walks past the market and the small park. Finally, he sees the station lights.

Ia mulai berjalan cepat menuju stasiun. Jalanan sepi dan gelap. Ia melewati pasar dan taman kecil. Akhirnya, ia melihat lampu-lampu stasiun.

Ethan runs inside and looks at the board. One more train leaves in three minutes. He buys a ticket and runs to the platform. He gets on the train quickly.

Ethan berlari ke dalam dan melihat papan jadwal. Satu kereta lagi berangkat dalam tiga menit. Ia membeli tiket dan berlari ke peron. Ia cepat-cepat naik ke kereta.

The train takes him close to his house. He walks the last street alone. He opens his front door quietly.

Kereta itu membawanya dekat ke rumahnya. Ia berjalan di jalan terakhir seorang diri. Ia membuka pintu depan dengan pelan.

"There you are," says his mom. "I was getting worried."

"Nah, ini dia," kata ibunya. "Ibu mulai khawatir."

"Sorry, Mom," Ethan says. "I missed my bus. I took the train instead."

"Maaf, Bu," kata Ethan. "Aku ketinggalan bus. Aku naik kereta saja."

"Next time, call me," she says with a smile.

"Lain kali, telepon Ibu," katanya sambil tersenyum.

"I will," Ethan says. "I promise."

"Iya," kata Ethan. "Aku janji."
