The Rearranged Photos

Rina keeps family photos on a shelf in her hallway. She has six photos in silver frames.

रीना अपने हॉलवे की एक शेल्फ़ पर परिवार की तस्वीरें रखती है। उसके पास चाँदी जैसे फ़्रेमों में छह तस्वीरें हैं।

She sees them every day before work. She knows their order well.

वह उन्हें हर दिन काम पर जाने से पहले देखती है। उसे उनका क्रम अच्छी तरह याद है।

One Monday, she stops and looks twice. The photos are in a different order.

एक सोमवार को वह रुककर दोबारा देखती है। तस्वीरें अलग क्रम में रखी हैं।

The wedding photo is now on the left. It is usually on the right.

शादी की तस्वीर अब बाईं तरफ़ है। वह आम तौर पर दाईं तरफ़ रहती है।

Rina is surprised. She puts the photos back the way she likes them.

रीना हैरान होती है। वह तस्वीरों को वैसे ही वापस रख देती है जैसे उसे पसंद है।

On Wednesday, the same thing happens again. Two photos change places once more.

बुधवार को वही बात फिर होती है। दो तस्वीरें एक बार फिर अपनी जगह बदल लेती हैं।

She checks the front door. It is locked, just like always. Nothing else in the house looks different.

वह सामने का दरवाज़ा जाँचती है। वह बंद है, हमेशा की तरह। घर में और कुछ भी अलग नहीं दिखता।

That evening, her nephew Arlo comes to visit. He is eight years old and full of energy.

उस शाम उसका भतीजा आरलो मिलने आता है। वह आठ साल का है और शरारत से भरा हुआ है।

Rina watches him walk past the shelf. He stops and touches one of the frames.

रीना उसे शेल्फ़ के पास से गुज़रते देखती है। वह रुककर एक फ़्रेम को छूता है।

"I like moving them around," Arlo says. "I like this picture here."

"मुझे इन्हें इधर-उधर करना अच्छा लगता है," आरलो कहता है। "मुझे यह तस्वीर यहाँ अच्छी लगती है।"

Rina laughs and sits down next to him. "Next time, tell me first," she says. "I almost thought something strange happened here!"

रीना हँस पड़ती है और उसके पास बैठ जाती है। "अगली बार मुझे पहले बता देना," वह कहती है। "मुझे तो लगा था कि यहाँ कुछ अजीब हो रहा है!"
