The Fox and the Crow

A cunning fox showers a crow with compliments about her beautiful voice — all to get her to open her beak and drop her cheese.
One bright morning a Crow sat in a tree with a fine piece of cheese in her beak.
एक चमकीली सुबह एक कौआ अपनी चोंच में पनीर का एक बढ़िया टुकड़ा दबाए एक पेड़ पर बैठा था।
A Fox, passing below, caught the scent of the cheese and looked up hungrily.
नीचे से गुज़रती एक लोमड़ी को पनीर की ख़ुशबू आई और वह ललचाई नज़रों से ऊपर देखने लगी।
"Good morning, mistress Crow," he cried. "How well you look today! How glossy your feathers, how bright your eye. I am sure your voice must be sweeter than that of any other bird. Let me hear just one song, and I shall greet you as the Queen of Birds."
"सुप्रभात, कौआ बहन," वह चिल्लाई। "आज तुम कितनी सुंदर लग रही हो! तुम्हारे पंख कितने चमकदार हैं, तुम्हारी आँखें कितनी तेजस्वी हैं। मुझे यक़ीन है कि तुम्हारी आवाज़ किसी भी दूसरे पक्षी से मीठी होगी। मुझे बस एक गीत सुना दो, और मैं तुम्हें पक्षियों की रानी कहकर पुकारूँगी।"
The Crow was so pleased by this flattery that she lifted up her head to sing. But the moment she opened her beak, the piece of cheese fell to the ground, and the Fox snapped it up at once.
कौआ इस चापलूसी से इतना ख़ुश हुआ कि उसने गाने के लिए अपना सिर ऊपर उठाया। पर जैसे ही उसने अपनी चोंच खोली, पनीर का टुकड़ा नीचे ज़मीन पर गिर पड़ा, और लोमड़ी ने तुरंत उसे झपट लिया।
"You have a voice, madam, I see," said the Fox. "What you lack is wit."
"आपकी आवाज़ तो है, महोदया, यह मैं देख रही हूँ," लोमड़ी ने कहा। "बस आपमें समझदारी की कमी है।"
Do not trust those who flatter you.
