The Fox and the Crow

A cunning fox showers a crow with compliments about her beautiful voice — all to get her to open her beak and drop her cheese.
One bright morning a Crow sat in a tree with a fine piece of cheese in her beak.
Una mañana radiante, una Cuerva estaba posada en un árbol con un buen trozo de queso en el pico.
A Fox, passing below, caught the scent of the cheese and looked up hungrily.
Un Zorro, que pasaba por debajo, percibió el aroma del queso y miró hacia arriba con hambre.
"Good morning, mistress Crow," he cried. "How well you look today! How glossy your feathers, how bright your eye. I am sure your voice must be sweeter than that of any other bird. Let me hear just one song, and I shall greet you as the Queen of Birds."
«Buenos días, señora Cuerva», exclamó. «¡Qué bien luce usted hoy! Qué brillantes sus plumas, qué luminosos sus ojos. Estoy seguro de que su voz debe de ser más dulce que la de cualquier otra ave. Déjeme escuchar solo una canción, y la saludaré como la Reina de las Aves».
The Crow was so pleased by this flattery that she lifted up her head to sing. But the moment she opened her beak, the piece of cheese fell to the ground, and the Fox snapped it up at once.
La Cuerva quedó tan complacida con esta adulación que levantó la cabeza para cantar. Pero en el momento en que abrió el pico, el trozo de queso cayó al suelo, y el Zorro lo atrapó de inmediato.
"You have a voice, madam, I see," said the Fox. "What you lack is wit."
«Tiene usted voz, señora, ya lo veo», dijo el Zorro. «Lo que le falta es sensatez».
