Kaia works at the library on Saturdays. She sorts returned books onto a cart. One book comes back again and again. It is an old book about gardens.
Kaia trabaja en la biblioteca los sábados. Ella ordena los libros devueltos en un carrito. Un libro regresa una y otra vez. Es un libro viejo sobre jardines.
Every time, the same page has a flower. The flower is small, dry, and flat. It always sits on page forty-two.
Cada vez, la misma página tiene una flor. La flor es pequeña, seca y plana. Siempre está en la página cuarenta y dos.
Kaia finds this very strange. She checks the name on the card. The name is Otilia, a kind reader.
A Kaia esto le parece muy extraño. Revisa el nombre en la ficha. El nombre es Otilia, una lectora amable.
Kaia wants to solve this small puzzle. She waits by the counter on Saturday. A woman with gray hair returns the book.
Kaia quiere resolver este pequeño misterio. Espera junto al mostrador el sábado. Una mujer de cabello gris devuelve el libro.
"Are you Otilia?" Kaia asks kindly.
«¿Es usted Otilia?», pregunta Kaia con amabilidad.
"Yes, that is me," the woman says.
«Sí, soy yo», dice la mujer.
"I found a flower in your book," Kaia says. "It is always on the same page."
«Encontré una flor en su libro», dice Kaia. «Siempre está en la misma página».
Otilia smiles a warm, quiet smile. "That page has my favorite lines," she says. "I press a flower from my garden. Then I mark that page every time."
Otilia sonríe con una sonrisa cálida y tranquila. «Esa página tiene mis líneas favoritas», dice. «Prenso una flor de mi jardín. Luego marco esa página cada vez».
"That is a lovely habit," Kaia says.
«Ese es un hábito hermoso», dice Kaia.
"My garden has many small flowers," Otilia says. "Would you like to see it sometime?"
«Mi jardín tiene muchas flores pequeñas», dice Otilia. «¿Te gustaría verlo algún día?».
Kaia nods with a big smile. "I would love that very much."

The next Saturday, Kaia visits the garden. Otilia gives her a small yellow flower. Kaia presses it inside her own book. She marks her favorite page, just like Otilia.

Now two books in town have flowers.
